CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

1213 Words
Josiah met Casey in the car when he came back. He entered the car and drove off without making the slightest peep. Cody was afraid. Clara could have told his brother about his fault and that was probably the reason Josiah kept mute. He didn’t know whether he should bring up another topic but he reflected that bringing up a topic when Josiah show his anger towards him by being silent aggravates the issue. That was a bad idea. It was a bad way to apologize. He decided to also keep mute and see where occurrences would take their drastic turns again. Just as they were about to reach their house, Josiah spoke. “What happened between you and the boy in coma?” “We were friends but I blew it. I screwed up bad and I’m sorry for that”. “Why would you do things that made your friend turn against you?” Josiah asked. “I did those things and I also turned my back against him”. “You are impossible”. “Now, I’m sorry. I felt horrible and I feel remorse for all I have done.” “You should. But sincerely my dear friend, you are feeling pity and not sorry”. “Don’t tell me how I feel.” Cody said, bursting into tears. Josiah had a change of mind. “It’s true. Now I see that you feel both”. Cody admitted. “But you really hurt the sister.” “That’s true. I will find a way to make it up to her.” “It’s good to see that you finally admit your wrongs and it will be better to correct them”. “Yes, but I don’t think she will listen now”. “Okay”. … Meanwhile Carl, Harry and Jeff were thinking of ideas to remove every trail that they might have left. They left no trail but there was something that they didn’t put into consideration before beating Casey into coma- the security cameras. They had forgotten so quick that the security cameras were installed in every nook and cranny of the school, except of course their usual base. It was when Harry looked up and saw the hidden camera that lay there for years. They freaked out when he notified them about the camera. “We have to do something to checkmate this”. Carl said, snapping his fingers repeatedly. “And it has to be quick”. Harry said. “We are doomed”. Jeff said, panicking. “There has to be a way we can enter the underground control room and come out without being seen”. Carl said. He was processing another scheme. “If only there could be something to distract the security men”. Harry said, moving his hands around his cheek. “That’s it. Harry just gave me an idea and it’s so perfect.” Carl said. “Well, let’ listen to the idea I gave you “. Harry said, grimacing. “We distract the security guards. The both of you will pretend to have a physical quarrel and then I go in to delete the footage. The guards will try to separate me but fight till I come out.” “Now I get it”. CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT The trio moved on to the security post. They were aware that the control room was six feet below. “Okay guys, it’s now or never”. Carl said. “We got it”. Jeff replied. Carl hid at a corner and watched his friends stage a “fight”. He saw them throwing “blows” at each other. He decided to watch the drama for a few minutes. The guards came out in matter of seconds and when they were carried away by the fight, he entered the security post without being spotted. He saw the door to the control room and said the password. It was a lucky guess but it worked at the first try. He saw the security footage after five minutes of perusal and he deleted it. He deleted the one that also had him sneaking in so as not to leave traces. “Operation cover our secrets is covered.” He said and left the room. His friends saw him creeping out stealthily and he gave them thumbs up. They knew he had done it without a hiccup and that it was time to end the whole scenario. Later on, the boys got to meet. “We did it”. “This calls for celebration”. Jeff said, rejoicing for joy. “We covered the s**t hole without anyone noticing. We have nothing to worry about now”. Carl announced. They jeered in jubilation. They walked to the school gate as they chattered happily. “It’s sure feels good to know that you have erased all evidences that could lead the trail to you”. A voice said from behind. “Yes, it does. I feel relaxed”. Carl said with his eyes closed. They looked back only to find Mr. Robinson. They tapped Carl and he snapped out of it. “Carl, do you think erasing the CCTV footage is just enough to bail you out?” Mr. Robinson said, casting a disdainful gaze at him. “Why did you think the doctor said Casey slumped and hit his head on the floor? I paid him to say that. You nit-wits know nothing yet you go about committing crimes. Just hope this ends well or else the three of you are going to spend quality time as friends together in jail.” He fumed out in anger. “We are sorry sir”. “You would have to say that to the judge if care is not taken.” With that, he entered his car, revved the engine and zoomed off. The trio kept looking at each other with a quizzed gaze. … Josiah decided to call Clara later in the night. He hoped she would be in a better state of mind to talk. Seeing Cody made her angry. “Hi Josiah, I am sorry for being so mad at you in the afternoon. I shouldn’t have reacted that way”. She said in a way that made Josiah feel she was calm. “I should be the one to apologize. My brother drove you nuts this. Please forgive him on my behalf. “. He said in a soft tone. “It’s okay. I’ve forgiven him, you are a nice version but your siblings are nothing to write home about”. “No, you haven’t met the quiet James and then the pure-hearted and little Julian. Those two did not only offend you, they also disappointed me.” “It’s okay. You have to let go. They are your siblings and they will always be”. “It’s cool with me. You are so nice and you look good whenever you smile.” “You are so funny”. She said and smiled. “See you tomorrow”. “Bye”.
