- ALEX (ELISE) My stomach gave a violent flip. I slammed my laptop shut, shoved myself away from the desk, and made a lunging sprint for the private bathroom at the end of the executive hall. I barely got the stall door closed before I was on my knees, coughing up nothing but stomach acid and the half-slice of dry toast I’d forced down at six this morning.
