On the campus’ comfort room, a girl washed her face up to hide her tears.
Memories started to fill her mind.
…
“Jean, I meant it when I gave that valentines letter to you. Can you accept me?” Adrien asked as she held her hand.
They were on the rooftop alone as they looked at each other’s eyes.
“But…”
…
The girl teared up even more.
She just broke up with Adrien Kang and she was really hurt. Although it might seem like it was her fault, she still loved him with all her heart.
“J-jean Kim?” Suddenly, she heard a voice behind her.
Immediately, Jean cupped a water to her hands and to her face.
She doesn’t want any stranger to see her crying.
“Yes?” She asked as she turned around only to see a girl.
“Y-you… we’re on the same class, right? Your name is Alison?” Jean asked.
“Well… y-yeah. Just now, w-were you crying?” Alison replied back.
“What crying? Shut it already.” Jean said as she grabbed her bag and went out the comfort room.
“J-jean… I’m sorry… I thought she was crying.” Alison, inside tried to apologize, but Jean’s already disappeared.
…
On the afternoon class, Jean was on her seat blankly staring at the window.
Beside her was Adrien Kang.
It was as if nothing happened between them, but inside their hearts, a part was aching. They had loved each other after all.
It’s just that their relationship stayed as a secret ‘till now that they’ve broken up. It has also been the reason of their break-up.
The reason was that Jean Kim’s background was influential that eyes have been settled on her. Her parents strictly warned her to not get into any relationship until she graduates.
She was single ‘till she met Adrien Kang on her senior level. She told him that they have to hide it, but he really wanted to show the world how he loved her. They have different idea and ended up getting pricked by their own thorn.
It was painful, but Jean has to accept it that they weren’t on the right time. Another thing, she’s an expert at hiding her emotions, so just let it slide like nothing happened. She hoped that Adrien would do the same.
Adrien Kang was a genius and everyone was aware of it, while she was labelled as a rich kid, her achievements were never praised because rumors have spread that she was bribing the school to give her good scores on her exams. Still, many admired and envied her.
On the other row from Jean and Adrien’s seat was Alison Lee who was feeling anxious.
She wanted to apologize for angering the usually lively Jean Kim she’s been seeing every day.
Another thing was that, beside her was Alison’s crush. Adrien Kang was good-looking and really cool when he was reciting or on a debate.
The afternoon classes went just like usual.
After school, Jean would usually go to the rooftop and meet with Adrien.
Feeling like they have to meet just one more last time, Jean went to the rooftop hoping that Adrien would do the same.
…
Jean was standing looking at the view on the school building’s rooftop as the wind blew unto her face.
It’s been half an hour, but he still hasn’t come.
Should she had told him?
It was just her feeling that was telling her that he might come.
It seems like she was all wrong.
A teardrop rolled down her cheek as she pulled both her lip’s sides up. She wanted to laugh at herself. Seems like she wasn’t that perfect after all.
As she turned around, a familiar figure appeared.
She was shocked and had no time to wipe her tears away when the figure spoke, “You broke up already?”
Jean was completely shocked. What is he saying? D-did he knew her relationship with Adrien?
“You’re crying here alone, so I guessed you two broke up.” The guy spoke again.
“What are you saying? Don’t speak nonsense! I’m not crying, it’s just that the wind was strong and something hit my eyes!” Jean replied.
Because of her family, she has to be perfect in any way. She must never cry in front of anyone specially strangers.
“Stop lying to yourself. You’re not a real goddess to not cry. It’s fine to cry, but better don’t.” The guy said as Jean had the chance to see his face clearly.
He looked handsome. Specially his words were a mixture of bitterness and cheesiness.
For a while, Jean got no words, but then, she looked down and spoke, “Don’t ever tell anybody. I admit it in front of you, and I’m begging you to keep silent.”
The guy was also from the same class as her, but Jean was assured that he’ll keep silent as this guy was the famous girl’s heart breaker and the walking ice, June Park. He was really cold that he got no friends at school. His background was also mysterious but nobody dared to investigate thinking that he might find out and freeze them to death.
Jean then walked past the guy.
Unexpectedly, June held her arm and made her go back to where she was standing a while ago.
“Don’t ever beg me because I don’t keep promises. Don’t admit it to me, just admit it to yourself.” He said and let her arm go before turning around and leaving.
…
On the car with her little brother, Jean silently sat as she looked out the window.
“S-sister? You seemed troubled.” Her little brother spoke.
Jean looked at his brother and smiled.
“Nope. I was just a bit tired because we have to get ready for the incoming exam. What about you, are you preparing for the exam as well?”
“Actually, sister, please don’t get angry and don’t tell mom and dad, I was bullied this afternoon by my classmates, but…” He wasn’t able to finish what he was saying as Jean spoke “What? You were being bullied? Who? Tell me immediately! Are you hurt? Let me see!”
“N-no… I wasn’t hurt. Sister, listen, if you’re going to get back at those pitiful students, I am sure our parents will make it big. Somebody saved me, so let’s just let it slide.” He replied.
“But, Chan, it’s important for your safety. If we let this slide, they might continue bullying you!” Jean insisted.
“Sister, remember, I am Chan, your smart little brother. I made a deal with the person who saved me. He will keep me safe from those bullies. He even promised to eat with me every lunch. He was at the same class as me, so I guarantee it.” Chan replied.
“And what are you giving in exchange?” Jean asked, still not getting relieved.
“I-I… promised to grant him 1 wish in every time he saves me.” Chan replied, looking down.
“Chan, listen, this is a serious problem and we can’t possibly overcome it just by letting a stranger take care of your safety.” Jean said.
“B-but sister!” Chan raised his voice which shocked Jean. She has never heard this tone of her little brother before.
Chan was three years younger than her, but he had always showed respect. He was usually gentle and calm.
“D-did you just…” Jean mumbled.
“I’m sorry, sister. I just want to try relying on myself. I’m not weak. Just like you, I want to show them that I’m perfect.” Chan replied looking down once again.
Jean clearly heard what he said and was near to tearing up. They might really see her as a perfect person, but she knew deep inside her that she wasn’t.
It was just their family rules that as an influential family, only the outstanding and perfect was recognized. She tried really hard to look perfect outside. But it hurts her to see that her younger brother has to face the same fate.
“Chan, you really weren’t weak. You’re trying to start your path and I’m going to support it.” Jean decided after a while.
…
On the next day, Jean and Chan went to the school together.
…
On the school library was two guys sitting across each other.
“You don’t seem happy and rushing today like usual, huh?” The guy on the left side asked.
“I really won’t be starting from today onwards.”
“Why?”
“Because that’s been life.” The guy on the right laughed, but his eyes reacts otherwise.
“Aish, stop it. It’s so disgusting.” The guy across him sneered.
Looking at Adrien’s contradicting expressions really disgust him, the bad boy freshman cousin.
“Yah, you should still respect me. I am your senior after all.” Adrien looked at his cousin.
“Respect, my foot.” The cousin jokingly replied.
“Oh, anyways, Bobby, I heard you didn’t look for me at lunch yesterday?” Adrien asked, looking as if he was suspicious of a romantic partner.
“Am I required to?” Bobby asked back.
“Of course.” Adrien laughed.
