Ava's POV
A part of me always knew something wasn't right. Though I don't know how it happened or how long it has been.
I stood in front of my house, lights flickering and my hands shaking with my phone in my hands showing Desmond's name. I must have called him about twenty times from the family dinner but it all went to voicemail.
I swallowed hard and unlocked the front door, my heels made the echo in the living room but something felt strange.
The lights.
Desmond never turns it off, he claims the lights on made the house feel alive but tonight was different.
Soon the housekeeper Rose appeared, her eyes widening in what could be described as a shock. Her hands were trembling and her voice stuttering.
“Ma..Ma’am, you're home early”
I blinked, exhausted, my throat sore from the silent tears I shed in the car while driving on autopilot.
“Why do you look surprised?” I asked, my voice firm.
“Nothing Ma, I wasn't expecting you. Is the dinner over?”
“No” I said taking off my shoes, “I couldn't find Desmond so I came home thinking he was already home.”
A flash of panic ran through her face, her eyes darted quickly, it could've been missed toward the staircase.
"Is he home?"
Her lips pressed to each other “Maybe you should go back to the dinner, I'm sure…”
The rest of her words were cut by the sound of a moan from upstairs. Low, slow one that wasn't mine.
Rose's eyes widened, her face told the truth her mouth couldn't. Everything went still, my world shifted. I shove my way to the staircase and the moan increases. This time it was louder, filled with pleasure so thick it curdled in my ears.
The more I walked closer to our room, the moans grew louder, bodies slapping each other, groans, giggles and then I blinked my eyes and my fingers that barely obeyed pushed the door open.
My heart sank.
My bedroom, my bed with two naked people in a battlefield of sweat and betrayal. One of my husbands, and the other is his first love, Grace. Those hands were supposed to touch me alone but lately I have to beg him to touch me.
I stood still, my legs froze, and tears welled up in my eyes. All I could see was a woman moaning his name and my husband buried himself inside her. Her legs lifted across his back and his own hands held on to her hair.
Still, I couldn't scream, my legs were rooted to the ground.
He didn't see me, her name was on his lips and then my world ended. He came inside her, he never did that to me. He doesn't want kids so he says and would give me vaccines to take each time I take in but now I know he doesn't want kids with me.
A sound escaped my mouth, it wasn't a scream but I just couldn't help how devastated I was.
Then they froze.
“oh!”
“You're home” Desmond said flatly.
Grace pulled up the sheets and modestly covered her chest, licked her lips, and made a smirk on her face like she was enjoying this.
“Desmond?” I whispered
He stepped off the bed, walked towards the dresser, pulled out a document, and threw it at my feet.
I flinched when it hit my shoes.
“Divorce papers?”
My mouth opened
But he didn’t care, he said those words that broke me
“I wanted to give this to you tomorrow but since you're already here, sign it.”
"You planned this?" I asked
He shrugged. “I wasn't hiding it, Ava.”
“But why would you divorce me after all we.., no after all I have done for you?”
“I put my career on hold because of you and became a housewife.”
“Oh please enough with the drama already Ava “
"Would you be in a marriage with yourself if you were me?" His eyes scan me from head to toe.
“I thought marrying you would elevate me but no, I was wrong. Marrying you only tarnished my reputation. You have nothing Ava, no home, and your father, one of the elite in this city while he was alive, died with all his assets leaving you with twenty percent shares.”
“What did that do for me all these years?” He asked
“You're nothing compared to Grace and you never will.”
That hit me, the tears that welled up in my eyes finally spilled down. It dawned on me that all these years,I have lived in deceit not love.
I wanted to scream, I wanted to talk it out with him but all I did was look at the divorce papers holding the pen.
“Did you get married to me for my father's wealth?”
I needed to ask, I wanted the truth.
Grace smirked, still lying on the bed.
“Wake up Ava I don't love you, I never did and I never will. Grace has always been my one true love. You were a mistake.” He added
Grace leaned on him naked, touching his lips with hers. Then her gaze fell on me. Soon I will be Mrs Parker.”
I nod my head.
“Fine, I will sign it, but know this, I will destroy you just like you have destroyed my life and my dreams.”
They laughed
I don't know how long I cried, probably for 30 minutes. Today was meant to be a celebration but I guess there's nothing worth celebrating.
I had signed the papers, my name a scrawl beside his, and all I could see were two wicked souls laughing at me.
I walked out with nothing but my phone and purse, down the stairs, and past my housekeeper whose eyes were filled with tears.
Out I go into the night.
I had no direction, but I felt my legs walking with a heavy heart. My heart was bleeding and I wished my Dad were still alive, then I would have a home to return to.
Then something snapped in me, I pulled out my phone and sent the recordings, evidence of betrayal, confessions I took via w******p to him.

I walked to the point where I couldn't hold it anymore. I found myself on the floor, not minding who was watching.
People stared, whispers followed. Everyone saw a woman with ruined makeup crying for what only God knows but I cried for all the years wasted and the hope for a change in my marriage being washed down the drain. I didn't stop walking despite the blisters on my feet.
Soon I got into a car and paid the driver off with the last money I had left in my purse. No direction, just driving. I knew I had taken the wrong turn but before I could reverse I froze.
The light flickered in my eyes, the next thing I saw was my car flipping in the air and landing upside down on the ground. My body ached, I screamed for help but the driver drove away.
