CHAPTER 004: An invite

Cassie’s POV

“ Come on, Cassie. Are you still going to keep crying yourself out? Alessandro is not your husband and you know it. Get over him please ”

Rhain consoled me. She just got back from work that evening and saw me wailing on the bed.

“ I can't forget him, Rhain. Alessandro is the first man I’d truly love,” I protested, and my cousin fumed.

“ Really? Love? Oh come on girl., Don't be dumb. Alessandro doesn't love you. He was just using you as a pawn to get back to his inheritance. What if I tell you that your so-called? Alessandro Clarks was the reason your boss had to dismiss you from the office,” Rhain revealed, bursting my bubbles.

My head spun after I heard what Rhain said.

“ What?! Alessandro did that?” I exclaimed in disbelief.

“ Oh yes, Cassie. Alessandro was desperate after you rejected his proposals. He had to pass through your boss, his friend, to get you to marry him.” She shocked me again, and I raised my face to her in disbelief.

“ Alessandro did all that? But How did you find out, Rhain?” I asked my cousin.

“ Trust me, Cassie. You know how good I am with information, right? I did my findings after you told me about your job dismissal, and I found out that Alessandro, your ruthless billionaire husband, was responsible for you being dismissed unfairly from work,” Rhain responded.

She hated Alessandro. I could see it in her eyes.

“Oh, my goodness. I can't believe Alessandro did all that so I could marry him. But I still love him” I wiped my eyes, provoking my cousin.

“ You love him? That beast refused to reward you after being a wife to him for one year and you still love him? Wait until I tell Arlo about your pathetic love story ” My cousin threatened.

“ Please don't tell Arlo. You know how crazy he can be, right?” I said and Rhain huffed.

“ Then be a sugar cookie and not a sour patch,” She said sarcastically to me

Wiping my tears away, I looked at Rhain with my swollen eyes and then took her hands.

“ Thank you for all you've been doing for me, Rhain. You’ve been my strength all these six months and sorry I'm being a burden to you. I’ll get a job soon so that expenses on you will be reduced. You know I can't go to Los Angeles and stay with my brother, Arlo,” I explained to Rhain, and she immediately hugged me.

“ Are you crazy, Cassie? You are not a burden to me. This whole house was boring as hell until you came” Rhain separated from me and took my hands. “ Listen, honey. You're my younger sister. We've been together since childhood and have been best of friends too.

Remember when someone put a dead lizard on my seat in elementary school? You helped me beat the hell out of the person”

Rhain took me down memory lane to our elementary school days and we both laughed hard. It's been years now and that single experience wasn't effaced from our memory.

“Melvin was such a mischievous jerk then!” I said, remembering those days.

We laughed hard and fell on each other’s bodies. Our elementary school days were fun. Reminiscing about those days made my happy self come back.

Still talking and laughing, Rhain’s phone suddenly rang and she got out of bed to take her calls.

I watched her smile grow like a teen girl in love. Then, I suddenly remembered my only love, Alessandro. It used to be the same smile for me, too. I never cared if he didn't love me back.

Rhain told me she had a boyfriend named Felix Scott but I have never met him since we began staying together. They only spoke on the phone.

“ I'm coming with my cousin right away. Just hold on for us, Alexander”

I heard Rhain say from the phone and squealed.

“ I'm coming with my cousin ?” I mimicked Rhain, wondering where she wanted to take me.

Rhain must be joking. She knows how extremely introverted I am, so whatever outing she's planning will never work out.

Screaming in excitement, Rhain hung up on the phone and jumped on the bed, hugging me tightly.

“ Come on, what is the excitement all about? Is it Felix who called you?" I asked, excited to hear some love gist, but Rhain seemed to have something different to say.

“ No, girl. It's not Felix who called, but my other man. He has yet to say a word to me, but I can't help thinking hard about him." Rhain laughed, and I fired her a curious gaze.

“Rhain, don't tell me you're seeing another man.” My eyes glued to her for an explanation but she pushed me playfully on the bed.

“ Gosh, girl. You are such a joy killer” Rhain stood up from me on the bed. “ But guess what Cassie, my friend's birthday is today. He wants us around ”

“ Birthday? Us?" My brows furrowed" You know I am a shy person who doesn't like public places, so I can't come with you,” I protested and collapsed back on the bed.

Nodding In disapproval, Rhain held my hands and pulled me up from the bed.

“ Go get dressed if you don't want me to tell Arlo about your secret marriage with Alessandro” She threatened.

“What?!” I exclaimed.

Rhain nodded, giving me no room to exercise my will.

"I'm not kidding. You know how I roll, right?" She gave a terrifying expression that frightened me.

“ Okay, it's fine. “ I got out of bed because of Rhian’s threats, but I was a bit reluctant.

Once dressed, Rhain and I headed out for her friend's birthday party.
