Chapter Fifty-Eight There are two opposed urges struggling within me: one is to get this story finished as soon as possible and acquire a little clarity, and the other is to write down everything that I know, have heard, analysed and compared, everything that arrives with each new day, with new facts and events from the recent Iraq war, and news of other things yet to come, and then again reach some kind of shoreline. But there is a final gap in what I know about the life of my central character, one that I cannot fill right now: I do not know how his life ended, or if it has ended.
