Chapter 40: Making Nice
I woke up with a kink in my neck and felt awful. Stone must have taken Violet away from me when I was sleeping because she now rested in his lap with one hand under her head, holding her, and his other arm wrapped around me. There was also a blanket draped across my body that was not there when I went to sleep. I tried to stretch out, but as soon as I did, the pain ripped through my body, and I grabbed my leg. Stone must have noticed me move because he tightened his grip on my arm. I tried not to scream out. He stirred and looked over at me, “How did you sleep?” he yawned. “Better than you by the looks of it,” I smiled. “Your leg,” he looked at how I clenched the wound. “The pain is immense,” I whispered. “Let me take a look,” he said as he hurriedly passed Violet to me.
