I hesitated for a minute, not wanting to move. “Kaleb, can I see the room you prepared for me before you knew about the twins?” I asked curiously what he had prepared. The twins' rooms were absolutely perfect.
A smile lit up his face. “Nothing would make me happier.” I followed him as we walked to the third floor.
Looking at the two flights of stairs before me, I laughed, "You really don't like elevators, do you?"
"Did Sophia tell you that," he laughed, "While it is true, I do not like confined spaces, I think an elevator would detract from the house. Plus its only two floors up. It I built it any higher, I guarantee I would have put one in," he defended his chice while making me laugh more.
"So three stories is the max limit then," I joked.
"I would say so," he laughed, "who needs that much space anyhow?"
"Well, you may be right about that. I think I'm just tired." I replied with a yawn as we rounded the second staircase.
"I could always carry you," he winked at me, "would be my pleasure."
"I'm sure it would, but I can manage, I said, and I was sure my face was as red as an apple.
If he noticed me blushing, he did not comment on it. Instead, in a gentle voice, said, "I promise you the view will make up for the stairs, besides, we are almost at the top.
"They better," I laughed, "Or I'm sleeping downstairs by the twins, thoroughly disappointed.
I was entirely joking, but he looked at me seriously before replying, "Challenge accepted, Luna."As he threw open the double doors, he spoke excitedly, “This is the Alpha suite,” he announced. "Examine it for yourself and see if it meets your high expectations."
Walking into a large sitting room, my eyes lit up. The entire back wall consisted of windows and a set of French doors that opened onto a deck with a view that would take your breath away. I walked to the door, looking at him for approval, and he nodded. I opened the door and stepped outside. The deck held the most amazing view I have ever seen. The bright colors of the sunset filled the sky. The beautiful reds reflecting off the lake.
I slouched, leaning over the rail, completely relaxed for the first time in days.“I thought the view from the packhouse was amazing, but this.” I was completely speechless.
"It meets your approval, then? "he said.
"It exceeds them entirely. I have never seen a more perfect image." I sighed contentedly.
“I would agree,” Kaleb said in a deep, suggestive tone, watching me before he hugged me from behind.
“Kaleb,” my body instantly tightened.
“Yes, Vivian,” he whispered near my ear. "You can relax, Viviana, I won't do anything else without your permission." His hot breath tickled my throat.
“Nothing,” I laughed. Turning in his embrace to face him, I leaned up and kissed his cheek, “Thank you”.
"To what do I owe the pleasure of your thanks?" he whispered.
"You gave me a home and a family," I replied quietly, gazing into his eyes.
"So far all I have given you is a house and a title, but I hope very soon that you will make this house your home and accept my family and pack as your own." As he spoke, I wanted to lean in and kiss him to stay in the moment, but I refrained, making the moment awkward as we both stared at each other wantingly.
He withdrew his arms, and I felt the loss instantly. “Let me show you the rest,” he motioned to the left side of the room, where another set of double doors were. As he opened, I brought my hands up to my face in surprise, “Your father told me you liked purple and white.”
As I stared at the room, I looked back over my shoulder and winked at him, “You really did think of everything.” I walked forward and ran my hand across the frame of the bed, admiring the room. A plush white carpet sat near the full bay window, flanked by two striped white and purple armchairs. Another set of doors led to the same deck that I could see from the living room. Only these doors revealed a porch swing was hanging from my side. I always wanted one of those. My room looked like it had been taken out of a magazine. There was a walk-in closet full of more clothes and shoes than one person could ever wear. Maybe the most surprising thing to me was the en-suite bathroom. Inside was a large jacuzzi tub and a side-by-side walk-in shower. Candles lined a shelf around the tub. I could not wait to test this out. I turned to Kaleb, “Everything you have done. All the planning and preparation…” I spoke hesitantly, “what if it had not happened?”
“Vivian, I would do it all over again for you,” he said tenderly.
“You don't even know me,” I spoke carefully, “now you know the me that my father created; what if you don't really like me once you get to know me?”
“Vivian, I can assure you, I know a great deal about you, the real you, but the more time we spend together, the more we will learn from each other,” he confidently added.
“But what if I disappoint you, Kaleb?” I worried, “I’m afraid you invested so much, what if you find out I'm not worth it?”
“Just be yourself, Vivian,” he reassured me.
“I'm sure that's not possible,” I whispered.
“Why not?” he asked with a hint of amusement.
“I’m not sure exactly who I am anymore,” I whispered.
“Then allow me to help you figure it out,” He whispered back as he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “Every day we can find out together who exactly Vivian Strong is.”
His words seemed so sure. “Okay…I’d like that.” His confidence quieted the uncertainty that was building in my soul. “Can I see your room?” I asked rather cheekily.
A groan escaped his lips, and he pulled me close, “You are not ready to see my room, Vivian, once you enter that room; there's no turning back, and you will be mine.”
“Yours?” I questioned.
“Mine,” he growled and bit my ear, causing me to jump back. Laughing, he pulled me back to himself, “Now would you like to see the room that I have for you by the children?”
“I want to stay here, Kaleb, you prepared everything for me,” I asked with a smile, not really sure if this was a wise move given how close we would be to each other.
He did not seem ready to fulfill my request. “The other room is just as nice; I can assure you. It will give us room to breathe and learn about each other,” he countered.
Something about that pulled the string of my heart, and fear crept in. “Please, Kaleb,” I begged, “please don't send me away.” A tear dripped from my eyes; it may seem dramatic, but I really didn't want to be alone. Yet at the same time, I didn't know how to tell him that either.
Kaleb quickly wiped the tears away and placed both hands on the sides of my cheeks before pulling me in and laying a sweet kiss on my forehead. “I would never send you away, Viviana, I just want you to be comfortable here.”
The little slip-up from Kaleb made me try to pull out of his hold. He held on tighter and placed his forehead against mine, “Vivian, I'm sorry. I know it's still hard for you, and I will try not to cause you pain.”
“The way you say it makes me wish it didn't hurt so bad. I will not sleep in the Alpha suite if it brings you discomfort.” I responded sympathetically.
“Vivian, you were born to only live as an Alpha, and I will bear it to keep you where you belong in your Luna suite.” He spoke passionately and calmly. I relaxed into his hold instantly, and I'm not even sure how long he held me.
“Goodnight then, Alpha Kaleb.” I said with a wink, “Time to let me go.”
Reluctantly, he released me. “Best of dreams, Vivian,” he replied as I turned and entered the room, closing the door between us.
