Chapter 5 When Nahtaia neared the forest’s edge, she was surprised—and relieved—to find that Oren was nowhere in sight; no one was. She entered the forest slowly and attentively but there was no sign of life, so, with a pleased sigh, she swiftly made her way home. The forest was quiet and darkening, bringing back unwanted memories of the owl attack earlier in the day. Maybe I should travel as a human until I reach the safe-barrier, she thought.
