The Birthday Party

ELENA’S POV "Elena, come on! It's your birthday! Don't be shy!" My friend Rachel's voice echoed up the stairs, accompanied by the thumping music and chatter of the partygoers. I took a deep breath, smoothing out my dress. "I'm coming, I'm coming!" I called back, trying to sound more confident than I felt. I stared at my reflection, fidgeting with the hem of my dress. My friends had convinced me to dress up for my 21st birthday party, but now I felt like a completely different person. The tight, red dress made me look like a bombshell, but inside, I was still the same shy and awkward girl. As the daughter of the Park Beta, I'd always felt like I was living in the shadow of my twin sister, Elaine. She was the strong one, the confident one, the one with the powerful wolf. Me? I was the weak one, the one with the wolf that barely made an appearance. And to make matters worse, I was still unmated at 21. It was a source of constant mockery and shame, especially since Elaine had been mated to the Alpha's son since she was 18. I shook my head to push the thoughts off my head. "I would be free soon" I reminded myself As I descended the stairs, the music and laughter enveloped me. I scanned the room, searching for Alex. My heart skipped a beat when I spotted him across the room, his eyes locked onto mine and I smiled sheepishly. But before I could make my way to him, my twin sister Elaine appeared by my side. "Wow, Elena, you look...interesting," she said, her eyes scanning my outfit with a mixture of amusement and disdain. I felt a familiar sting of insecurity, but I pushed it aside. Tonight was about celebrating my birthday and my newfound freedom. Not about letting Elaine get under my skin. "Thanks, Elaine," I replied, forcing a smile. "You look lovely too." Elaine's eyes sparkled with amusement. "I always do," she said, tossing her hair over her shoulder, revealing the mark on her neck, the symbol of her mating with the Alpha's son. "After all, someone has to represent our family with style and class." I rolled my eyes, feeling a surge of annoyance and jealousy. But before I could respond, Rachel grabbed my arm and pulled me onto the dance floor. "Come on, birthday girl! Let's party!" she shouted, spinning me around to the music. The party was in full swing, the music pulsating through the air. I danced with my friends, trying to let loose and have fun. But Elaine was always there, lurking in the background, making sure I knew she was the center of attention. As the night wore on, I couldn't wait to leave it all behind. I made my way to the edge of the dance floor, scanning the crowd for Alex. We had planned to sneak out quietly, without drawing attention to ourselves. I spotted Alex across the room, his eyes locked onto mine. I nodded, and he nodded back, a silent understanding passing between us. I made my way to the exit, trying not to draw attention to myself. But as I stepped out into the cool night air, I felt a sense of freedom wash over me. I walked to the designated meeting spot, a secluded spot in the woods. Alex was already there. "Ready to go?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with excitement. I was happy to have been chosen by Alex, he was everything I wanted and more. I nodded, feeling a thrill of anticipation. We were really doing this. We were leaving it all behind and starting fresh. But as we walked into the bush in darkness. Alex stopped suddenly. "Wait here for a minute, okay? I need to get the car ready." I nodded, feeling a slight pang of unease. But Alex was always careful, always looking out for me. As I stood there in the darkness, I started to feel strange. My skin felt hot, and my heart racing in my chest. I steadied my breathing to reduce the uneasiness that I felt but it only intensified. I looked around, feeling a sense of disorientation. Where was Alex? Why was he taking so long? I stood there my eyes moving in all directions, I felt a surge of heat consume my entire body and a strange scent hit me. It was stronger than all the leaves' scent combined. A scent that made my heart beat out of rhythm. It was a warm, earthy smell, like woodsmoke and cedar. It was like nothing I’d ever smelled before. It seemed to wrap itself around me, pulling me in. My mouth watered and my sense heightened. My eyes scanned the area looking for the source of the scent but I found none. Instead, I was surrounded by different leaves. I took a step forward, my eyes still scanning the darkness. And then, I stumbled. I fell hard onto the ground, my palms scraping against the rough earth. As I struggled to get up, I saw a light in the distance. I stumbled towards it, my heart pounding in my chest, my vision hazy and my skin boiling underneath. I clenched my thighs together as the sensation spread, claiming the sensitive spot between my legs. As I walked towards the door, I clenched my thighs together as a moan threatened to escape my lips. I felt my pants dampen with pools of my wetness. The scent coming from the direction of the door made it impossible to walk steadily. I wanted to be closer to that scent, my body craved for it but my legs were not steady. I pushed open the door slowly, the creak of the hinges breaking the silence of the dimly lit room. The scent of something intoxicated me, almost magnetic, lingered in the atmosphere, and that’s when I saw him. There, standing in the shadows, was the source of that intoxicating scent. A tall, brooding figure, his posture exuding power and control. His eyes, dark and penetrating, locked onto mine with an intensity that made my pulse quicken. It was as though the very space between us crackled with energy, an electric charge that surged through me, causing my heart to skip a beat. "Welcome, stranger," his voice rumbled, low and husky, sending a shiver down my spine. I should have been afraid, but fear was the last thing I felt. Instead, I felt a magnetic pull drawing me closer to him. My body reacted in ways I couldn’t explain—an undeniable attraction, a yearning I couldn’t resist. It was as though every instinct in me was telling me I belonged here, in this moment, with him. I took a tentative step forward, and before I knew it, he moved with the grace of a predator, his hand reaching out to gently touch my face. His fingers brushed against my skin, sending a rush of warmth through me. It was as though his touch was both a promise and a command and without thinking, I let myself melt into it, surrendering to the pull of his presence. His gaze never left mine, the weight of it both comforting and overwhelming. I could feel my breath hitch, the words I needed to say slipping from my lips in a whisper. "Please," I breathed, barely audible, my voice trembling with a desperate longing. "Help me."
