With each kiss of my lips on her skin, my mind warred with itself.
Every caress, kiss, and moan felt real. Like the greatest of dreams come to fruition. But there was that word, dream, because that was exactly what this was. My hands were not really on her skin, my tongue was not tasting the true warmth of her flesh. This was all an illusion, though the most realistic one I’d ever experienced. Did I want our first mating to be one born of dreams?
Even as my mind shouted at me that this was not how we wanted to start our forever with our mate, my c**k was of a mind to see just how real this dream could feel.
In the end, my caution won, as it often did. Pulling away from her, I released my hold on her wrists. The way her velvety blue eyes shot open and stared up at me with a mixture of desire and disbelief was almost enough to make me throw caution to the wind and say f*ck it all.
“Drogon.” My name as a husky rush of breath from her kiss swollen lips nearly sent me over the edge.
“My Little Star, I must pull back before we are too far gone.”
“I don’t understand.” Celeste whispered, blinking up at me in confusion as the hormones in her body battled to take control.
“Our first mating is when we mark one another. With this not being reality I don’t know how it could affect the mate bond.”
“He’s right, my dear.”
The new voice filtering through the clearing had the instant affect dousing the fire between us. No other besides the two of us had ever been present here. This place had been a refuge for us, a place for just our souls to connect despite what hell the real world had in store. For another to be here now was confusing to say the least.
Releasing my grip on Celeste’s wrists, I threaded my fingers through hers, pulling us both to our feet and curling her close to my side. Whatever I’d been expecting to see standing before us couldn’t hold a candle to the truth.
A petit woman stood before us, her lithe body wrapped in a cloud of white chiffon that floated on the soft breeze. Hair, black as coal, cascaded like a water fall over her shoulders, light dancing on the silken strands. Her eyes were as dark as her hair, turned up slightly at the edge and striking against the paleness of her skin.
“Who the hell are you?” Celeste demanded, pressing her naked body closer to my side so only her bare side was in full view.
The mystery woman seemed to ignore Celeste, her interest instead focused on trailing down our naked bodies. Midnight black eyes took in every inch of our bodies, unhurried in her pursual, her soft petal pink lips turned up in appreciation.
“Jealous, my dear, jealous is who I am.” Her soft voice shaking with poorly contained laughter as her eyes twinkled mischievously. “I was going to ask why you Slade siblings seem to always be naked when I meet you, but if I’m honest, I’m not complaining.”
With an indignant snort, Celeste pulled out of my grasp and stepped in front of me, cutting off the other woman’s all too interested gaze. “That’s enough.” My little star growled, crossing her arms over her chest as she leaned back into my hold. I wasn’t a fan of my treasure between me and a stranger whose intentions were unknown, but if I’d learned one thing through our time together, I knew she could hold her own. And this was her world. “No one else should be able to come here, explain yourself.”
“Awfully protective of something you’ve waited years to claim.” The stranger muttered, one elegant eyebrow raising questioningly.
“Not that it is any of your business, but those years were not by choice. Now state your business or leave.”
Quite filled the air between us as Celeste and mysterious woman faced off, though while Celeste seemed to be egging for a fight, the other woman instead appeared conflicted and saddened.
“I was afraid of such.” She muttered softly. Gliding across the soft grass she gracefully sat on the edge of a rock formation at the edge of the water. “When I lost connection with my daughter, I was worried, but assumed it was a case like Orion and Odin. A choice to cut off the world. To learn that my assumptions were wrong…” as she trailed off, Celeste stiffened in my hold, her heart picking up pace.
“Celeste, my treasure, what is wrong?” I whispered along her ear, leaving soft kisses along her cheek and temple in the hopes of calming her nerves.
“Something she said.” She whispered back, before focusing on the woman who’d unnerved her. “Your daughter. You mean Alexandria, don’t you? You’re the Moon Goddess, Selene.”
“I have missed her dearly. How is Dria?” Hope shone in her dark eyes, but there was an edge there, a caution that said she was scared to know the answer.
“She’s good, now that we got away, and she’s been able to get out.” Shuffling lightly on her feet, Celeste cleared her throat before taking a deep breath. “Any chance we can have this talk outside of my dreams? Where I might be dressed?”
“Oh yes, of course.” The goddess chirped, a sly smile lighting up her face as her eyes flicked to me. “Though it would be a shame to cover such a large-.” Celeste’s chest rumbled in a growl that brought a tinkling of laughter from Selene’s parted lips. “I was only going to say such a large dragon. We will speak soon.”
“Yeah, sure you were.” Celeste quipped, rolling her eyes even as the goddess’s form faded away like smoke on the wind, leaving us alone in the matter of seconds. Turning in my arms, my treasure wrapped her arms around my neck and pushed up on her toes to drop one soft and too short kiss to my lips. “I hate to cut this short, but if she’s showing up, it’s best we speak with her. She may even be able to help us find the others.”
“I understand. Besides, we have the rest of our lives for each other. I just ask that before the day ends, we mark one another.” As her brows drew together in argument, I placed my fingertip to her lips to halt the argument before it began. “This I cannot give on, my treasure. If you’d been marked, I would have been able to sense you no matter the interference. We’ve wasted years apart because I wanted to wait till you were ready, but now I need to you to accept that if you want me, we need to finalize our bond immediately.”
“Okay.” With one soft word I felt as if the world had finally landed in place. By the end of the night, my treasure, my little star, would be tied to me for all eternity. I took her lips in a single fierce kiss, but the moment I tried to pull her tighter to me, she was gone, and I was opening my eyes to the bright lights of the fluorescent bulbs of my temporary prison.
“Your back.” A deep voice vibrated from much closer than the silver bars on the opposite side of the caged room. Vespian’s hopeful eyes were watching me closely. “Luna says that Celeste just woke up as well, and with what the goddess just confided in us, we wanted you both up and with us before we began in depth discussions and planning.”
“Planning? What are we planning?” I inquired as aching muscles protested while I moved to stand.
“Revenge, my brother, revenge.” Vespian grasped my hand in his, setting his other hand on my shoulder as we stood toe to toe. “We know who’s behind Celeste’s a*******n, and we’re planning on taking him down. Want a place in the raiding party?”
“No. I plan on leading it.”
