I tell Isla I’m going to watch the boys. It’s not a lie—they’re young, still learning the world, and I won’t let anything happen to them. But as I take a step toward the zip line area, my eyes catch a glimpse of her.
Madison.
She looks at me for just a second before turning away, but it’s enough. That split-second glance ignites something deep inside me—something I buried a long time ago. My chest tightens, my pulse quickens, and I’m sixteen again, back when I first understood what it meant to want someone so intensely it scared me.
Because if I’ve ever truly loved someone, it was Madison.
Not Isla. Not anyone else.
I stand there, pretending to watch the boys, but my mind isn’t here. It’s back then—back to the night everything changed.
