Any subsequent realization of loss of sight by these unfortunate souls was momentary, as the explosion was followed by a surge of phenomenal heat that left every living thing dead in its wake. Minutes later came the blast as the shock wave spread from the epicentre, pulverising buildings and throwing up debris miles into the atmosphere. Everything and everyone within ten miles of the epicentre was obliterated. Anyone in the open fifteen miles beyond this radius suffered third degree burns, while properties were demolished for up to thirty
