Young scientists take the lead In December 1998, Dr Terry Tao wanted to fulfil one of his moral obligations. He had made a promise to Carl Sagan to visit him in New York, his place of residence when Sagan was teaching at Cornell University. Since he hadn’t managed to do that, he felt he ought to visit him even after Sagan’s death to fulfil his promise. He visited Carl Sagan’s grave holding a jasmine blossom. When he got there, he met another young man, Niko Lygeris, who had come for the same reason. He wanted to pay his respects to the grave of a great scientist, who had greatly contributed to the understanding of the universe by the wider masses, through his simplification of the science of cosmology.
