Archer's hands trembled as he reached to check Samantha's breath.
Moments later, he collapsed onto the floor as if all strength had been drained from his body.
The bedroom remained eerily silent for what felt like an eternity.
Archer's thoughts were a tangled wreck.
'I should've noticed sooner and seen the signs! What can I do now? What was left to do?Right, call an ambulance! The doctors can save her!'
Yet deep down, he knew it was already too late.
Kneeling by the bed, he clasped Samantha's cold hand, pressing his forehead against her knuckles before finally breaking down in sobs.
