Ethan was extremely solicitous as he held the umbrella for Kaitlyn. "Please, come inside. It's too hot outside."
Looking at the sweat beads on Ethan's temples, Kaitlyn thought he seemed like the one who had been under the sun for a long time. After all, he had only been out for a short while and was even holding an umbrella. Staying in the office for too long had really weakened his body.
Fortunately, Ethan didn't know what Kaitlyn was thinking.
Truth be told, the cold sweat on his forehead was from seeing the male cameraman offering to help Kaitlyn. He had feared Lucas' wrath and had hurriedly come out to greet them.
The mere thought of Lucas seeing another man touching Miss Miller sent shivers down Ethan's spine.
As they entered the building, Kaitlyn couldn't help but notice that the Watson family was unlike any other company. On their way, they didn't encounter a single female employee.
Was it true, as rumors had it, that Lucas disliked women to such an extent?
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
As they entered the area of the president's office, Ethan regained his composed and professional demeanor. "Here we are. May I ask if it's okay for you to conduct the interview in Mr. Lucas' office?"
"That's perfectly fine," Kaitlyn replied with a polite and professional smile. "For our newspaper interview, we just need to take a few photos of Mr. Lucas at work and ask him a few simple questions."
As they approached the office door, Ethan knocked and announced, "Mr. Lucas, Ms. Sheng and Mr. Pang are here."
"Come in," came the calm and soothing response.
Instantly, Kaitlyn's mind exploded like fireworks. That voice... it was indeed the owner of the Bentley she had encountered before.
Her palms became sweaty with nervousness.
Gripping her fists, Kaitlyn forced herself to appear calm as she pushed open the door and greeted Lucas, "Hello, Mr. Lucas. I'm Kaitlyn, a reporter from the People's Daily. I'm here to conduct your interview."
The cameraman also greeted them.
"Hello," Lucas turned from the large floor-to-ceiling window, his tailored suit impeccably straight, with two buttons undone at the neck. He nodded slightly towards them, his expression calm and composed. "Would the reception room be suitable?"
Seeing Lucas' accommodating demeanor, Kaitlyn and the cameraman both breathed a sigh of relief. They dreaded encountering powerful individuals who were unwilling to cooperate during interviews.
As Kaitlyn and Lucas sat face to face, she thought of the personal questions in her folder. Facing this dignified and elegant man, she found herself unable to ask them.
After asking a few simple questions about financial management, Kaitlyn, for the sake of fulfilling her assignment, ventured, "One last question, why did Lucas decide to give up a promising future abroad and return to the country?"
Lucas paused momentarily, then propped his chin with his finger and chuckled softly. "Perhaps it was for someone."
Not wanting to pursue the matter further, Kaitlyn focused on wrapping up the interview. She turned off her recorder, stood up, and thanked him, "The interview is over, thank you for your cooperation, Lucas. When our sample issue comes out, we'll send you a copy."
His gaze fleetingly lingered on her slender legs as Lucas politely stood up, his voice mellow. "Alright, now that business is done, let's talk about something personal."
Kaitlyn's hand slipped, and her recorder fell.
Lucas caught the recorder with ease and smiled firmly but gently, "I'm sure Ms. Sheng isn't the type to avoid her debts, right?"
Seeing the panic on her face, Lucas quirked his lips and instructed Ethan, "Please escort Mr. Pang back to the photographer's studio."
The cameraman looked at Kaitlyn, "Kaitlyn, are you..."
Kaitlyn's expression was strained. She didn't want to involve the cameraman, especially since she did owe Lucas for the car repairs. "Photographer, please go back to the newspaper office and inform the editor-in-chief. I'll go home directly after this."
"Alright, be careful." The cameraman had noticed that Lucas' eyes had been fixed on Kaitlyn during the interview. He had assumed it was because Lucas was captivated by Kaitlyn's beauty, but it turns out they knew each other before.
Ethan quietly closed the office door, leaving Kaitlyn and Lucas alone in the spacious room.
Lucas poured a cup of black sugar ginger tea with longan fruits for her. "Don't be nervous, sit down and have a cup of tea."
Looking at the tea floating with two longan fruits, Kaitlyn furrowed her brows. "This tea..."
Lucas toyed with the recorder in his clean, slender fingers, his expression serene. "What's wrong? Don't you like the tea?" She was due for her period in the next few days, and Lucas remembered it clearly because he had to abstain for five or six days each month.
Moreover, she suffered from menstrual pain, and every time he would force her to drink this to relieve it, as she hated the taste of ginger and would refuse even when the pain was unbearable.
But this time, he had anticipated that Kaitlyn, out of politeness, wouldn't refuse.
Fearing that she might suddenly become suspicious, Lucas added casually, "A friend sent it to me. I don't like sweet tea, so I thought it would be perfect for a guest."
"I see," Kaitlyn nodded politely. "Thank you for the tea, Lucas."
