Chapter 15

2659 Words

During regular days, the unpaved trail led from the main house where the troops were fed, to the back area where the housing began for the compound’s inhabitants. On Market Days, the trail was lined on both sides with carts and booths and kiosks. Today, musicians strolled, singing songs of love. The smell of cooking meat caught his attention. Somewhere out there were sausages and lean breakfast strips. Served on toast or small loaves of bread, and smeared with her delicious blackberry jam.
