On the ride back downtown, Santiago gave me the details about Veronica’s call with Chief Stephenson, after getting their permission to share. They’d both wanted me to know so that when I wrote about the story, I could share what they’d agreed.
Veronica had offered to pay for all archaeological work and any work of remembrance, as they’d put it, that the Monacan Nation might want done. The nation would have full control, but they wouldn’t have to pay for a thing.
