Singing was the welcomed distraction to him. All Greg had to was milking a few pints and collect a few Cabbages out of the ground and toss them into a collection bin. and. The work was mundane and the voice quivering as he sang. but it kept his mind off Alice, not only did it serve distraction, but it also paid well. The king's field was expensive and fertilised to grow almost any vegetation. Maybe one day he could afford to expand the land left by his late-father.
Greg wiped the sweat droplets racing from his forehead to the bridge of his nose. He could have grabbed his hat out of the house, but he needed distraction from thinking about Alice. The thought of Alice produced more thoughts of her, and soon she was all he could think about.
"doo doo, doo-doo
Time keeps on slipping, slipping into the future
Time keeps on slipping, slipping into the future
I wanna fly like an eagle to the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly like an eagle
Till I'm free......."
"Are you okay, youngin'?" asked Emma, his young sister who's always teasing of being a big sister.
Greg poked his beard, nodded unwilling to share his personal affairs with his young sister. Well, maybe not total young. She might get married herself soon. However, she can never be old enough to him.
"I'm okay. it's really hot out, I forgot my hat by the door" said Greg as he shaded his eyes from the sun.
she smiled her gap teeth.
"Ahh lucky for you I made you a Lemonde, It will help you "whip" the thirst"
Greg hesitated, but it seemed Emma would not allow her kind gesture be rejected.
"Take it. Or I'm cooking dinner tonight"
She slightly smiled, looking at him with pleading eye.
"Oh, my God" he said.
with his hand on his forehead.
"Come on brother! you know my cooking skills got better" rolling her eyes.
Convinced, Greg took the drink as he urged his first gulp.
"See I knew you needed one"
they both laugh
"You haven't been looking like yourself since this morning, are okay?"
He poked his beard once more, his eyes all over the place as he tries to keep his cool. However, Alice was all he could think of not even working could make his stop thinking about her.
what seemed like venting, quickly turn to rescue when a shouting voice came out of no-where.
"Help! help! help!"
A drink slipped from his hand, his eyes was wide open like he knew where the voice was coming from.
"Hear! that" he said.
"Sounds like someone is in trouble, should we go look" she responded.
hesitant but driven by curiosity he said.
"where do you think it's coming from, the voice"
"I think it's coming from the woods, we should head there"
Both quickly rushed to the woods, as they was moving closer the voice got louder. Greg could barely walk fast because of a heavy object he was carrying in his hand.
"come on brother! keep up!" she shouted
Because of an object he was carry Greg still couldn't keep up. but as they got very close the voice was faint and phased out.
"Hello! hello! anybody there, hello!" Emma shouted.
