CHAPTER 2

Ella POV The sting was immediate, my cheek burning from the impact. I staggered back but quickly found my footing, glaring at her with all the fury I could muster. "I'm the crazy b***h?" I shot back, my voice rising. "You're the one sleeping with my fiancé!" She didn't flinch, her expression smug and unrepentant. "Not just sleeping with him," she spat, her voice dripping with venom. "I'm having his baby." I stood there, frozen, the words catching in my throat. "Having his..." I whispered, my mind reeling. Before I could finish, Mike cut me off. "It's over, Ella," he said flatly, his voice devoid of any emotion, as if he were discussing the weather. I blinked, trying to process what he had just said. "But we were trying to start a family," I protested, my voice cracking. "We just signed a lease on a house." Mike smirked, and Julie, still wrapped in the sheet, placed a possessive hand on his chest. "You actually thought that was a lease?" he sneered. "You're so gullible, Ella." Julie chuckled, leaning into Mike as if to stake her claim. "You think Mike wants a family with you?" she taunted, her voice dripping with disdain. "He doesn't love you." Her words sliced through me, but she wasn’t done. "Besides, you're just a broke-ass babysitter," she added, her tone cruel. "You can't afford to have a child." A surge of anger pushed through the shock, and I clenched my fists at my sides. "I'm broke because I've been paying for Mike's school," I snapped, my voice trembling but laced with fury. "I sacrificed everything for him!" Julie smirked, her expression cold and condescending. "Well," she said, her tone dripping with mock sympathy, "now that that's paid off, he's done with you." Julie tilted her head, her smile sharp and wicked. "Mike," she purred, her eyes gleaming with malice, "tell Ella what you did because you didn't want her to have your baby." I turned my gaze to Mike, my heart pounding, dread curling in my stomach. "What is she talking about?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Mike sighed, as if confessing was merely an inconvenience. "I've been putting birth control in your vitamins," he admitted, his tone casual, almost bored. My world shattered at his words. "How could you?" I gasped, stepping back as if distance could soften the blow. "You know how much motherhood means to me. How could you do this to me?" I felt a burning lump rise in my throat, but I refused to let the tears fall. Not here. Not in front of them. "After everything I've done for you," I said, my voice shaking but strong, "all this time, I thought there was something wrong with me. I thought I was broken. But it was you. You were poisoning me." I couldn't stand to look at either of them any longer. The betrayal was too deep, too raw. Without another word, I turned on my heel and walked out of the room, leaving the shattered remains of my heart behind. In the hallway, I spotted a set of keys on the console and grabbed them without thinking. Mike's voice followed me, sharp and demanding. "Hey, that's my keys! Where are you going?" I spun around, meeting his eyes with a cold, hard stare. "I'm taking your car," I said, my voice steady. "I expect you and all your things to be gone when I get back." Without waiting for a response, I turned and headed for the door. My mind raced as I sped away from the house, the weight of betrayal heavy on my chest. But amidst the chaos of emotions, a sudden clarity emerged. I wouldn’t let Mike's deceit define my future. If he didn’t want to be part of my dream, I’d pursue it on my own. Before I knew it, I found myself back at the hospital. My heels clicked against the polished floor as I hurried through the corridors, ignoring the curious glances from staff. Bursting into the doctor's office, I caught my breath and spoke with determination. "I've changed my mind," I said, my voice firm. "I want a donor." Dr. Reynolds looked up from his desk, surprise flickering across his face before he nodded in understanding. "Are you sure, Ella? This is a big decision." I met his gaze, my resolve unshakable. "I'm sure. I’m done waiting for something that was never meant to be. It’s time I take control of my life." Dominic POV I sat behind my desk, the city lights flickering beyond the large windows, casting shadows across the room. The tension was thick as Hugo, my Beta, stood before me, a folder clutched tightly in his hands. "Alpha Dominic," he began, his tone careful, yet firm. "Our latest polling numbers are slipping in the election. Voters are leaning towards an Alpha who has an heir and a Luna. They want to see stability—a family." I leaned back in my chair, my fingers tapping lightly on the desk. "You know Lydia and I just got divorced," I said, my voice flat. "She was never my true Luna. I only married her because..." I trailed off, the familiar sting of the past creeping in. "Because my fated mate, the rogue Alpha's daughter, went missing when we were kids." Hugo nodded, understanding etched into his features. "I understand, Alpha, but perhaps we should reconsider our approach. Maybe it's time to pull the trigger on the surrogacy-" "No," I cut him off sharply, my gaze hardening. "We can't do that. We need the perfect Luna, the right mother for my heir. My pup can't be carried by just any human."
