Just as Jason was about to leave, a faint noise from outside made me stop. My instincts sharpened instantly. Jason must have heard it too because he turned back to me, his brows slightly furrowed. “What was that?” he asked. I didn’t answer. Instead, I moved toward the door, my wolf alert, listening carefully. The sound was distant but growing louder, footsteps, movement in the shadows. Maybe it was Hugo returning.
