Kira’s POV I laid there on the small mattress, pretending to toss and turn like I was too scared to sleep. Every once in a while, I let out a soft whimper, just loud enough for Hank to hear. I could feel his eyes on me even though Dahlia was sleeping quietly beside him, completely unaware. Slowly, very slowly, I moved closer toward the bed. My fingers, shaking slightly — pretending to still be afraid — reached out, brushing lightly against Hank’s hand that was hanging off the side of the bed. At first, he didn’t react. But when I moved my fingers again, softly tracing his skin, he tensed. I held my breath, acting innocent, like it was just an accident because of fear.
