The heavy silence on the other end of the phone line was suffocating. Theo stared at the phone in Gage’s hand, his chest tightening with every passing second.
"Liora? Are you there?" Gage called out, his voice dropping into a deeper, more urgent tone.
"I'm coming home right now," Liora’s voice finally came back, sounding breathless and terrified. "Tell Renn and Marcus to meet me at the trucks. We are leaving the site this very second."
The line went dead with a beeping sound.
Gage slowly lowered the phone, his face completely pale. He turned his head and looked at Theo, whose hands were still shaking violently against his backpack straps.
"Let's wait a bit, we'll solve this soon," Gage said quietly, placing a heavy hand on Theo’s shoulder. "We need to gather everyone right now."
