Mr. Williams finally regained his voice.
“What do you think you are doing, Felicia?”
He sighed and turned toward the housekeeper.
“Hand the meal to me.”
The housekeeper immediately handed him the tray. He collected it and headed back into the bedroom.
Spotting Felicia sitting cross-legged on the small couch, he frowned.
“What is the meaning of what you just did? Answer me!” Mr. Williams demanded.
“Calm down, Dad. Don't give yourself high blood pressure.” She pouted before continuing. “Dad, I told you I don't need a bodyguard. I can protect myself.”
“And how exactly are you going to protect yourself, Felicia?” he asked. “Prove it to me!”
He sighed deeply.
“Well, I'm not changing my mind. I lost your mother at a very young age, and now I'm already in my forties. Don't you have any sense?”
“You party at every opportunity you get. Felicia, I'm fed up!”
He pointed at her angrily.
“Look, the election is around the corner, and I don't want anything to be used against me and prevent me from winning this election. Get that into your f**king skull, Felicia!”
Mr. Williams had never been this furious before.
Felicia, on the other hand, was stunned. She didn't know what to say.
To be sincere, Mr. Williams was completely triggered this time. He wasn't going to fall for her cute little acts anymore.
He walked over to the small table in the room, picked up a file, and threw it toward her.
Felicia caught the file and immediately glanced at its contents.
Name: Tristan Thompson
Age: Twenty-seven years old
Height: 6'7"
She didn't need to read further. She already knew what the file contained.
For a moment, she was stunned.
In a voice barely above a whisper, she asked, “Dad, isn't this the contract for the bodyguard you assigned to me?”
“What?” Mr. Williams replied.
“Didn't you say you didn't want a bodyguard and that you didn't want to tarnish the family's reputation?”
He shot her a disappointed look, making Felicia feel uneasy.
“But, Dad…”
She wanted to say something, but she quickly swallowed her words. They seemed to get stuck in her throat.
“Come on! Go on!” Mr. Williams said. “Tear the contract.”
Seeing her hesitation gave him a little hope.
If he hadn't assigned a bodyguard to his daughter, he already knew what could happen. Many people were targeting her, and most of those targets were aimed at using her against him.
The world was indeed ruthless.
The last time, his daughter had been kidnapped by people who intended to use her against him and ruin his chances of winning the election.
But it seemed heaven was on his side.
His daughter had been rescued and taken to the nearest hospital by a young man named Tristan.
Mr. Williams later investigated him and discovered that Tristan was a product of G.T.G. — G-God Training Ground.
That was when he decided to hire Tristan to protect his daughter.
However, Felicia wasn't willing to accept the idea of having a bodyguard.
She had insisted that what happened in the past wouldn't happen again and that she would protect herself if anything happened in the future.
Felicia, on the other hand, didn't know what to say or do.
She quietly placed the file on the couch and walked out of the room, moving almost like a thief sneaking around in the middle of the night.
Mr. Williams took a deep breath—the one he'd been holding for what seemed like forever—and slowly exhaled.
“Now, let's get the game started.”
He had finally found someone capable of protecting his daughter.
No matter what happened, he wasn't going to back down in the election.
Thinking about it made him feel relieved.
Meanwhile, Felicia was extremely displeased by the thought of having a bodyguard follow her everywhere.
In other words, she was completely dissatisfied.
Not knowing what else to do, she decided to check the school group chat. She wanted to catch up on everything concerning school resumption tomorrow.
After scrolling through her phone for a while, she decided to call her best friend, Hailey Parker.
The Parker family was the wealthiest family in the city. They owned several fashion-related companies, including jewelry stores, clothing brands, and many other businesses.
They were unbelievably rich.
As soon as the call connected, Hailey showered Felicia with questions.
“What's up, babe? How was your day today?”
“Day, huh?” Felicia replied.
Hailey was smart enough to catch the underlying meaning behind the way Felicia emphasized day.
“What's up with you, babe?”
“Nothing much. It's just that my dad brought home a big gift for me today.”
“What?! And you're not happy about it?” Hailey asked, sounding surprised. “How ungrateful can you be?”
“Not at all! I'm very happy with the gift, and I love it!” Felicia replied.
She smiled mischievously.
“I'll bring him to school tomorrow.”
Hailey was confused by the word him.
Perhaps she's talking about a male teddy bear, she thought.
She didn't dwell on it.
“Okay,” she simply muttered.
Felicia paused for a moment.
Gosh! Is she really that dumb? Didn't she catch what I meant by ‘him’?
She decided not to explain it either.
She was about to change the subject when she suddenly heard the sound of something breaking in the background.
CRASH!
Then came an argument followed by an angry voice.
Felicia was startled.
“What's that sound, Hailey? Or did your parents start fighting again?”
She waited for an answer.
But all she heard was Hailey sobbing.
Nothing else.
“f**k…”
Felicia already knew the answer.
Yes.
Hailey, on the other hand, didn't know what to do or say. All she could do was cry.
After a moment, she gathered enough courage to speak.
“Felicia, I think I'll hang up for now, okay? See you tomorrow at school. Bye.”
Her voice was barely above a whisper.
The call ended.
Felicia stared at her phone for a moment.
She had known Hailey for a long time, and hearing her cry made her uneasy.
She suddenly sprang up from the couch and headed straight toward the extravagant living room.
She rushed down the stairs, almost falling, but she didn't stop.
After reaching the large, beautifully decorated living room, she screamed:
“Mom! Dad!”
She looked around anxiously.
“You guys started again, right?”
THUD!
Hailey suddenly collapsed.
