Banished Under the Blood Moon

567 Words
The gates of the Blackwood Pack slammed shut behind Ava. The heavy iron sound echoed through the quiet forest like a final goodbye. Or a death sentence. Ava stood still for a moment, staring at the massive gates that had once protected her. The same gates she had passed through every day since she was a child. Now she was on the outside. Banished. Her chest still burned from the rejection. The mate bond had snapped violently, leaving behind a hollow ache that made it hard to breathe. Her wolf whimpered painfully inside her. “Why would he do this to us?” her wolf cried. Ava wiped the tears on her cheeks quickly. “We don’t need him,” she whispered weakly, even though the words felt like a lie. The cold night wind blew through the trees, making the forest feel darker than usual. The moon above was large and glowing red. A blood moon. An omen. Ava wrapped her arms around herself and began walking deeper into the forest. She had nowhere to go. No pack would accept a rejected and banished wolf. And lone wolves rarely survived for long. Branches cracked under her feet as she walked for what felt like hours. The further she went, the quieter the forest became. Too quiet. Something suddenly felt… wrong. Her wolf stirred uneasily. “Stop walking.” Ava froze. She slowly turned around. Nothing. Just darkness and tall trees. But the feeling of being watched refused to disappear. Then suddenly— A low growl echoed through the forest. Ava’s heart jumped. Another growl followed. Then another. Three glowing pairs of eyes appeared between the trees. Rogue wolves. Her stomach dropped. Rogues were the worst kind of wolves. Uncontrolled. Violent. Merciless. And right now… She was alone. The largest rogue stepped forward slowly, his yellow eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. “Well,” he sneered. “Looks like we found ourselves a little lost pup.” The other rogues laughed darkly. Ava stepped back instinctively. “I’m not looking for trouble,” she said cautiously. But the rogue only grinned wider. “Oh, we are.” They lunged. Ava’s wolf instantly took over. Her body shifted as fur burst through her skin and bones cracked into a powerful wolf form. But something felt… different. Stronger. Faster. Before the first rogue could even touch her— Ava moved. She leaped forward with terrifying speed and slammed into the largest rogue, sending him flying into a tree. The forest shook from the impact. The other rogues froze in shock. Ava froze too. What… just happened? She had never been that strong before. Not even close. The rogue she had hit struggled to stand up, coughing violently. “What the hell…” one of them whispered. But before Ava could react— A deep, commanding voice suddenly echoed through the forest. “That’s enough.” The rogues instantly stiffened. A powerful figure stepped out from the shadows. Tall. Intimidating. Dangerous. His eyes glowed silver under the blood moon. And the moment Ava saw him… Her wolf went completely silent. Because the bond she thought had been destroyed suddenly stirred again. Impossible. Ava’s breath caught in her throat. The stranger’s gaze locked onto her. And then he spoke the words that made her entire world spin again. “Interesting,” he said slowly. “My mate… has finally appeared.”
