Chapter 6 – The Prison Beneath the Throne

The roar did not fade. It grew louder. The walls of the Hall of Origins trembled violently as cracks spread across the black crystal floor. Ancient runes ignited one after another, flooding the chamber with silver and crimson light. Aurelia instinctively stepped back. "What... was that?" Lucien's expression darkened, a rare flicker of concern crossing his face. "It is something I prayed you would never awaken." The ground split open with a deafening crash. A wave of black energy erupted from the abyss beneath the throne, carrying with it the scent of blood, ash, and forgotten death. Every torch inside the chamber was extinguished. Only Aurelia's glowing golden eyes pierced the darkness. Lady Seraphine unsheathed her twin swords. "My King, we must leave!" Lucien didn't move. "No." "If the seal has weakened, abandoning this chamber will doom the kingdom." He turned toward Aurelia. "There are truths I should have told you long ago." Centuries before the kingdoms of wolves were divided, there had existed a creature older than the Moon Goddess's chosen Alphas. It had no true name. The ancients called it The Hollow King. Neither wolf nor demon. Neither living nor dead. It devoured souls instead of flesh and grew stronger with every betrayal committed beneath the moon. Unable to destroy it, Nyxara and Lucien had sacrificed everything to imprison the monster beneath the Obsidian Throne. Its prison had remained untouched for one thousand years. Until tonight. Aurelia's rebirth had weakened the ancient seal. "It wasn't your fault," Lucien said quietly. "The prophecy demanded your return." "But now..." "He knows you're here." Far beyond the Forsaken Kingdom, Morgana Bloodrose stood within her crimson cathedral. A circle of Blood Witches surrounded a pool filled with black water. Its surface rippled. The face of the Hollow King appeared. Though blurred by shadows, its glowing eyes radiated endless hatred. Morgana smiled. "The Shadow Queen has accepted her crown." The voice emerging from the water was deep enough to shake the cathedral. "Then the final sacrifice approaches." Morgana lowered her head. "I have fulfilled my part." "When the prison breaks..." "You shall have your Queen." The water turned blood red. The connection vanished. Meanwhile... In Bloodfang Kingdom... Kael Blackwood refused to believe Aurelia was dead. Night after night, he wandered the palace corridors, haunted by memories. The laughter they had once shared. The promises he had broken. The tears he had ignored. His Beta, Rowan, entered the throne room carrying an ancient scroll. "We found this beneath the old temple." Kael opened it. His breathing stopped. Drawn across the fragile parchment was an image of a woman wearing the very same black crown Aurelia now possessed. Above the illustration were faded words. "When the Shadow Queen rises once more... the Alpha who betrayed her shall either become her greatest shield... or her kingdom's first casualty." Kael clenched the scroll so tightly it tore. "What have I done..." Back beneath the Obsidian Throne... The c***k in the prison widened. Dark mist poured into the chamber. Within it appeared hundreds of ghostly figures. Former kings. Queens. Warriors. All consumed by the Hollow King over countless centuries. Their hollow voices whispered together. "Free us..." "Join us..." "Bow..." Aurelia pressed her hands over her ears. The voices invaded her thoughts. Images flashed before her eyes. Kael begging for forgiveness. Lucien lying lifeless upon a battlefield. A child calling her "Mother." A kingdom burning beneath a black sun. The visions became unbearable. Suddenly— A warm hand closed around hers. Lucien. "Look at me." She lifted her tear-filled eyes. "You're stronger than the darkness." His calm voice became an anchor. The whispers weakened. The shadows retreated. For the first time since awakening as the Shadow Luna... Aurelia smiled. Not because the danger had passed. But because someone believed in her. Above them, storm clouds swallowed the moon. Lightning struck the highest tower of the Obsidian Citadel. A royal messenger burst into the underground chamber, panting heavily. "My King!" Lucien turned sharply. "What is it?" "The southern villages..." "They've all disappeared." "What do you mean disappeared?" "There are no bodies." "No survivors." "No buildings." "It is as though an entire region has been erased from existence." Silence followed. Even Seraphine looked shaken. Before anyone could speak again— A raven flew through the shattered ceiling and landed before Aurelia. Tied to its leg was a black ribbon. She untied the message. Only one sentence was written in crimson ink. Shadow Queen... If you wish to save your world, come to the Valley of Forgotten Souls alone. Come before the next blood moon... Or watch every kingdom fall. There was no signature. Only the mark of a broken crown surrounded by crimson thorns. Lucien's face turned to stone. "I know that seal." Seraphine looked at him. "You've seen it before?" Lucien nodded slowly. His voice barely above a whisper. "It belongs to someone who died..." "...a thousand years ago." The chamber fell silent. Outside, the blood-red moon disappeared behind thick clouds. Somewhere beyond the mountains, unseen eyes watched Aurelia with patient satisfaction. The game was no longer about revenge. It had become a battle for the fate of every kingdom. And as Aurelia folded the mysterious letter into her hand, she couldn't shake the terrifying feeling that accepting the Shadow Crown had awakened something far more dangerous than the Hollow King. Something that had been waiting—not for a queen... But for her.
