Chapter 2 – The King Feared by Death

804 Words
The sky turned crimson. Not because of sunset. But because something ancient had awakened. Deep within the Forsaken Realm—a kingdom erased from every history book—a pair of blood-red eyes slowly opened. The torches lining the endless black hall ignited by themselves. The earth trembled. Outside the obsidian castle, tens of thousands of wolves lowered their heads until their foreheads touched the frozen ground. None dared to look up. For the first time in one thousand years... The Cursed Alpha King had risen from his throne. A towering figure emerged from the darkness, draped in a black cloak embroidered with silver runes. His long midnight hair flowed behind him like living shadows, and a jagged scar crossed one side of his handsome face. His crimson eyes carried neither mercy nor warmth—only the weight of centuries. King Lucien Noctis. The ruler whose name mothers whispered to frighten reckless children. The Alpha no kingdom had ever defeated. The King even Death had failed to claim. His voice was calm, yet it echoed through the castle like thunder. "She lives." The sentence alone made hardened warriors tremble. An elderly woman in silver robes approached and knelt. "My King... are you certain?" Lucien's gaze remained fixed on the crimson moon. "I have waited a thousand years for the Shadow Luna." "The bond has awakened." A flicker of excitement crossed the old woman's face. "But the prophecy said she would only appear after betrayal beneath the sacred moon." Lucien closed his eyes. "I felt the moment her heart broke." He had waited through centuries of loneliness. Watched kingdoms rise. Watched empires collapse. Watched generations forget his name. Yet he had never forgotten the prophecy. "Only the Luna betrayed by her destined mate can awaken the Queen of Shadows." And now... She had awakened. Miles away... Pain burned through Aurelia's body. She gasped and sat upright. Cold air rushed into her lungs. She wasn't lying on the execution altar anymore. She was inside an enormous chamber carved from black crystal. Moonlight poured through towering windows, illuminating strange silver symbols etched into the floor. Her chest rose and fell rapidly. The wound... The fatal wound that had pierced her heart... Was gone. She stared at her trembling hands. "I'm alive..." A soft voice answered from behind. "No." "You were reborn." Aurelia spun around. Standing several steps away was a striking woman with long silver hair and violet eyes. She wore elegant black armor decorated with wolf motifs. "My name is Lady Seraphine," she said, bowing gracefully. "I serve the Shadow Throne." "The Shadow... Throne?" Seraphine nodded. "You are in the Forsaken Kingdom." "The only place beyond the Moon Goddess's reach." Aurelia frowned. "I don't understand." "You will." Before Seraphine could explain further, unbearable pain exploded through Aurelia's spine. She screamed. Dark silver energy erupted around her. Bones shifted. Her wolf surged forward. But something was wrong. Her fur... Wasn't gray. It wasn't white. It was black as midnight, streaked with glowing silver patterns. When her transformation ended, Seraphine looked at her in stunned silence. "It... can't be." Aurelia stared at her reflection in a polished obsidian pillar. Her wolf's eyes glowed like liquid gold. Silver flames danced beneath her paws. She looked nothing like an ordinary werewolf. Seraphine whispered in awe. "The first Shadow Wolf..." "The prophecy is true." Meanwhile... In Bloodfang Kingdom, celebration echoed through the royal palace. Music filled the grand hall. Wine flowed freely. Princess Selene wore Aurelia's former Luna crown. King Kael raised a jeweled goblet. "To a new beginning." The nobles applauded. Yet before anyone could drink— Crash! Every window in the palace shattered at once. A freezing wind swept through the hall. Candles extinguished. The room fell into darkness. A deep growl echoed from nowhere. The High Priest collapsed to his knees. His face had turned deathly pale. "No..." "No..." "It cannot be..." Kael gripped the arm of his throne. "What is happening?" The old priest looked toward the blood-red moon visible through the broken windows. His voice shook. "The Shadow Queen..." "She has accepted a vessel." Silence swallowed the hall. Selene laughed nervously. "That's impossible." "The Shadow Queen died centuries ago." The priest slowly turned toward Kael. "No, Your Majesty." "She was never dead." "She was waiting." And somewhere beyond the mountains... Aurelia opened her golden eyes. For the first time since her execution... She no longer felt the pain of losing her mate. She felt only one thing. Power. A power that pulsed through her veins like living darkness. Far away, in the highest tower of the obsidian castle, King Lucien Noctis watched the crimson moon. A faint smile crossed his lips. "The game has begun." And for the first time in a thousand years... The King feared by Death felt something he had long believed impossible.
