Leo called Ruger just before he got to Marilyn's house, but there was no response. It meant that Arnold had not given Ruger back his phone. It also meant that Ruger was still under Arnold's arrest.
The night was quiet so Marilyn heard the soft hum of the car when Leo pulled up. Besides, the headlights beamed at her apartment as he parked.
''Babe,'' Marilyn muttered as she opened the door to let Leo come in. She looked behind him to see if she would see Ruger behind. She could afford to let Ruger sleep in the living room if it came to that, because she felt that there might be something wrong.
