Maya spent the rest of the day in a daze. She walked back to her apartment, took a long shower, and stood under the hot water until her skin turned pink. She scrubbed herself clean, but she could still feel his hands on her, still taste him on her tongue. She dried off and sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the wall.
A D. She had a D. She was going to graduate.
But a B minus sounded better. A B minus meant she could tell her parents she finished strong. A B minus meant she didn't have to feel like she had sold herself cheap.
She pulled out her laptop and opened the file for the final project. It was half done, a mess of bullet points and half-formed ideas. She had barely contributed to the group project, relying on her teammates to carry her. Now she had to do it alone, and she had one night to make it good enough for a B minus.
She worked until her eyes burned. She rewrote the introduction, added sources, fixed the citations. She crafted an argument that was coherent and compelling. By midnight, she had something she was almost proud of. She saved the file and closed her laptop.
The next morning, she dressed carefully. She chose a blouse that buttoned down the front, the kind that gaped open just slightly when she leaned forward. She wore a skirt that fell above her knees but wasn't too short. Professional enough to pass, but with enough give for him to push it up if he wanted.
She arrived at his office at the same time as yesterday. She knocked twice, and he called for her to come in.
Daniel was sitting behind his desk, reading glasses on, a stack of papers in front of him. He looked up when she entered, and a slow smile spread across his face.
"Right on time," he said.
"I told you I'd be here." She closed the door behind her and walked to his desk. "I brought the project."
"Let me see it."
She handed him the flash drive. He plugged it into his computer and scrolled through the document, his expression unreadable. Maya stood in front of his desk, her hands clasped behind her back, trying not to fidget.
He read for a long time. She watched his eyes move across the screen, his lips pursed in concentration. Finally, he leaned back in his chair and removed his glasses.
"This is good," he said. "Surprisingly good."
"I told you I could do the work."
"You told me you could do anything." He set the glasses down. "But this is actually solid. Well researched. Well argued. You clearly put effort into it."
"So what does that mean for my grade?"
He tapped his fingers on the desk. "With this, plus your exam score? I can get you to a C plus. Maybe a B minus if I'm generous."
"Maybe?"
"B minus is a stretch. Your exam was really bad, Maya. You have to understand that." He stood up and walked around the desk, stopping in front of her. "But you're making progress. You're showing me you care. That counts for something."
"Progress," she repeated. "So what else do I have to do?"
He reached out and traced the collar of her blouse. "You're wearing this for me."
"I wore it for myself."
"You wore it for me." His fingers toyed with the top button. "You want me to help you, you have to be honest with me."
She swallowed hard. "Fine. I wore it for you."
"I thought so." He unbuttoned the first button, then the second. "But you also came here with work. That's important. You didn't just show up and expect me to hand you a grade."
"Should I have?"
"No." He shook his head. "You're doing it right. You're putting in the effort. I told you that's what it would take."
"And now?"
"Now," he said, unbuttoning the third button, "we negotiate."
"Negotiate what?"
He pushed the blouse off her shoulders, letting it fall to the floor. She was wearing a thin lace bralette underneath, nothing too flashy, but enough to make him pause.
"Your grade," he said, his voice lower now. "You want the B minus. You want to walk out of here with something that doesn't embarrass you. But you also know what you have to do to get it."
"More work," she said.
"More effort." He stepped closer, his hands on her waist. "You have to prove that you want this. That you're willing to do what it takes."
"And you decide what that means."
"I decide." He nodded. "I decide what's enough. I decide whether you've earned it. That's how it works."
Maya reached up and unbuttoned his shirt. "And if I earn it?"
"Then you'll have your B minus." His hands slid down to her hips. "But you have to earn it first."
She pushed his shirt off his shoulders, letting it fall. She ran her hands over his chest, feeling the warmth of his skin. "Tell me what you want."
"I want you to show me you mean it." He pulled her closer, his mouth against her ear. "I want you to make me believe that this isn't just about the grade. That you actually want this."
"Maybe I do."
"Maybe isn't good enough." He pulled back, looking at her. "I need yes or no. Do you want this?"
She looked into his eyes, and for a moment, she didn't know the answer. Did she want him? Or did she just want the grade? She thought about last night, about the way he had touched her, the way he had made her feel. She thought about the power she had felt, the control. She thought about the way he had looked at her, like she was something more than just another student.
"Yes," she said. "I want this."
He kissed her, deep and hungry. She kissed him back, her hands fisting in his hair. He walked her backward until her legs hit the desk, and then he lifted her onto it, standing between her thighs.
"Good girl," he murmured against her mouth. "That's what I wanted to hear."
She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him closer. "So what now?"
"Now," he said, "you work for it."
He kissed down her neck, biting gently at her collarbone. She tilted her head back, giving him more access. His hands slid under her skirt, pushing it up her thighs.
"You're already wet," he said, his fingers finding her through her panties.
"You make me wet."
"That's the right answer." He pulled her panties to the side and pushed two fingers inside her. She gasped, gripping his shoulders. "You're going to come for me first. Then we'll talk about your grade."
"Daniel."
"Shh." He worked his fingers in and out of her, slow and deep. His thumb pressed against her c**t. "I want to hear you."
She moaned, arching her back. He watched her face as he moved his fingers, studying her reactions. She felt exposed, vulnerable, and somehow she didn't mind. She let go, let herself feel it.
"I'm close," she breathed.
"Come on." He leaned in and kissed her. "Let go for me."
She came with a cry, her walls clenching around his fingers. He kept going, drawing it out, until she was trembling against him.
"Good," he said, pulling his fingers out. "That's a start."
He unbuckled his belt and let his pants fall. He was already hard, thick and ready. He lifted her off the desk and turned her around, bending her over the surface. She braced her hands on the wood, feeling the cool surface against her heated skin.
"I want you to feel this," he said, pressing against her entrance. "I want you to feel how hard you made me."
He pushed in, slow and deliberate, filling her inch by inch. Maya moaned, gripping the edge of the desk. He was so deep, so thick. He started moving, long strokes that made her gasp.
"You're doing so well," he said, his hands on her hips. "Taking all of me."
She pushed back against him, meeting his thrusts. The sound of their bodies slapping together filled the room. He reached around and rubbed her c**t, fast and hard. She was already building toward another orgasm.
"You want that B minus?" he asked, his voice strained.
"Yes."
"Then come on my cock." He pounded into her harder. "Come for me again."
She did, screaming his name. Her p***y clenched around him, and he groaned, thrusting deeper. He pulled out and turned her around, lifting her onto the desk. He drove back in, face to face, kissing her as he f****d her.
"I'm close," he said against her mouth.
"Come inside me." She wrapped her legs around him. "Please."
He thrust deep and came, spilling into her. She felt the warmth spread inside her, felt him pulse against her walls. He kept kissing her, soft and slow, as he came down.
When it was over, he pulled out and grabbed a tissue from his desk, cleaning her up. She sat on the edge of the desk, watching him button his pants.
"So," she said, "the B minus?"
He laughed, shaking his head. "You're relentless."
"I'm determined."
"I can see that." He walked to his computer and typed something. "I'll update your grade to a C plus for now. The project was good, but I need to see more effort."
"More effort?"
"One more meeting." He looked at her. "One more project. Something small. A reflection paper on the course material. If it's good, the C plus becomes a B minus."
"And if it's not good?"
"Then you stay at C plus." He shrugged. "Which is still a passing grade. You graduate either way."
"And if I don't want to settle?"
He smiled. "Then you show up. You do the work. You prove to me that you're worth the extra points."
Maya stood up and pulled her blouse back on, buttoning it slowly. "When do you want the reflection paper?"
"Tomorrow." He walked over to her and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Same time. And Maya?"
"What?"
"Don't disappoint me."
