Chapter Two: Silas

381 Words
I shut my cabinet door and leaned against the wall. “Briar the great, huh? I haven’t heard her name in a while. I wonder if Iris is the daughter she never talks about.” I stretch and head over to the bathroom for a cold shower. My cravings are coming back, and I can not overindulge in blood… I don’t want to kill anyone again. I growl and step into the shower, still clothed. I just need to will away the cravings. Will away my bloodlust. I shiver underneath the cold spray from the shower head. “What am I going to do if these cravings don’t go away… How many more people will I end up killing or hurting?” Once the cravings subside enough to be bearable, I change out of my wet clothes and get into a black fluffy robe. I sit down on the old, beat-up couch. My family’s cabin has definitely seen better days. My phone buzzes, and I pick it up. “Hey, Amelia.” “How’s my little brother doing?” “Better, I got to the cabin this morning, just working on battling the cravings.” “And this is why Papa told you not to try blood. Day walkers are more likely to get addicted since we don’t really need it to survive.” “Yeah, I know, Amelia, can… f**k can we not do this right now?” “Oh, I’m sorry, Silas, it’s just we all worry about you…” “I know… Please trust me, I’m trying to get better.” “We do trust you… Ma and Papa are afraid that you’re gonna relapse and have to send you back to Blood Anonymous classes. So, prove them wrong, little brother.” “I will. I should probably go. Tell everyone I love them, and I love you too.” “I will and love ya too.” She hangs up the phone, and I sigh while I lean back into the faded cushions of the couch. I turn on the TV to have some background noise as I flip through one of the many books that my family has. I need a distraction because I can feel the withdrawal symptoms boiling in the bottom of my gut.
