The sunlight filtered through Iris’ lace curtains. I heard both her and Kai groan in unison as the light ruined peaceful slumber. I sat up when my cell phone binged. I grabbed it, and of course, it was my sister texting me, making sure I was good. I missed her calls yesterday with everything going on.
“Be right back, guys, my sister wants me to call to make sure I haven’t started slipping again…”
I hauled my tall frame up out of bed and walked into the hallway. I dialed my sister’s phone number and waited for her to pick up.
“Silas, are you okay!”
“Yeah, I’m good, just been a little busy with someone I met. She was having a rough day yesterday.”
Amelia groaned. “You’re not replacing one addiction with another, are you. Silas? I f*****g knew this would happen if our parents let you leave home to ‘relax and rest’. I’m ripping them a f*****g new one when they get home.”
“No, Amelia, I’m not swapping one out for another. She’s cool. I think you two would get along. Same with her friend. He’s chill, also.”
“Oh my gods are you f*****g both of them?”
“It happened once, okay, but I do like both of them. Just don’t go f*****g blabbing to our folks, okay?”
“Silas… this might turn out well, you’re still healing from your blood addiction. I don’t think this is healthy, and not because one is a dude… It’s just your addiction, and I’m afraid that this could replace the blood.”
“Amelia, I’m an adult, and yes, I have an addiction, but not to s*x, just blood… You know that. I’ll be fine. I promise.”
I leaned against the wall as she kept going like she didn’t even hear a thing I had said. My gaze focused on the ceiling in the hallway. My hands shook as she kept rambling. The bedroom door creaked.
Iris’ soft voice came from the crack of the door. “Is everything okay out here? You sound frustrated.”
I nodded and covered the mouthpiece of the cell phone. “My sister is a little tiffed off I missed her call yesterday, is all.”
She nodded and closed the door. I leaned my head back against the wall again.
“Hey, Amelia, I’ve got to go. I’m gonna cook breakfast, and I need to get off the call, okay?”
“Fine, but listen, I’m telling our parents were all worried about you. Love you, Silas. I’ll talk to you soon.”
“Love ya too, Sis.”
I hung up the call and opened the bedroom door. Kai was putting on his shirt, and Iris was throwing on a dark purple sundress. My lips tugged into a small smile.
“Don’t you two look nice.”
Iris’ face flushed, and Kai rolled his eyes.
“I’m just putting on what I had on yesterday,” Kai huffed and finished buttoning up his shirt.
I chuckled and smoothed back my hair. “Still looks fine as hell, Kai.”
I watched as Kai’s face flushed a dark crimson, and Iris giggled. I took their hands in mine and led them out to the small kitchen. I filtered through the fridge and the cabinets. My brain compiled dishes I could make before it settled on French toast and sausage. Kai leaned against the cabinet, and Iris helped grab the ingredients I called out while I grabbed the cooking utensils and pans.
I cracked the eggs and added cinnamon sugar before dunking the bread into the mixture. I tossed it into the pan to make the egg coating firm up and get crispy. In the other pan, I started to cook the breakfast sausage. Kai started helping Iris set the small table in the corner of the kitchen. As I worked, Iris and Kai were chatting about her bar. I picked up bits and pieces here and there.
“Yeah, I am redoing the apartment above the bar. So, I can move out of this shitty apartment.”
“Really? That’d be amazing! If you need any help, I’d love to help you out.”
I look up with a smile. “I can also pitch in if you need an extra set of hands.”
“Thanks, guys, I’d actually like that.”
She smiled and squeezed Kai’s hand. I cleaned my hands after I finished with the egg mixture and pulled her into a tight hug. She giggled and leaned into the tight embrace. Her arms wrapped around my neck. I pulled her closer; her smaller frame fitted perfectly against my chiseled chest and abdomen.
“Silas, you should be concentrating on cooking, not trying to smother me with hugs!” Her laugh pitched when I grabbed her ass.
“Aww, and why not, Love? I like how you and Kai fit against me. You two fit perfectly, and I don’t wanna let go.”
My hands trailed up to her back and into her tousled hair. My fingers tugged on her wavy locks gently at first, then I tugged harder. Her lips parted as a breathy moan fell from her plump lips. I smirked down at her.
“Like that, Baby?” I purred against the shell of her ear.
She nodded and whined. Her smaller hands gripped my shirt collar. Her head tilted slightly as she showed me her throat. Being submissive today, huh? I growled and gently bit down on her pulse point. The way her pulse fluttered underneath my open mouth made me want to bite hard. My eyes fluttered closed before I pulled away quickly and looked away from both her and Kai.
“What’s the matter, Silas?” Iris muttered quietly, as if she had done something wrong.
The hunger in me grew. I groaned and covered my mouth to hide the fangs that had started to pop through behind my eye teeth. I hissed and pulled away from her outstretched hand. Kai lowered her arm and gently pulled her away,
“I think he’s struggling with blood lust right now… I can feel the distress rolling from him,” Kai answered softly.
His voice was soothing, and my fangs slowly retracted back into the small slits behind my eye teeth. I was breathing heavily. My chest hurt, and the ache in my mouth started to subside slowly. With shaking hands, I reached out for them. I craved their touch, their comfort.
Kai and Iris held my hands. I couldn’t make out what they were saying, but whatever it was, it was soothing the inner beast. When the inner beast finally subsided and was soothed, my gaze met theirs. I smiled weakly.
“Food should be ready. I hope you like it…”
I plated food for us, and we all sat down to eat. The silence stretched out until after we had eaten the French toast. I cleaned up the dishes afterwards. I took in shaky, needy breaths. Iris was helping me dry dishes while Kai was putting them away.
