Kai sighs and hangs his head. He looks conflicted, like he’s battling some inner demons. I wanted to reach out and comfort him, but I didn’t know if he’d accept it. He’s always been the strong one, and right now he looks so defeated.
“Can I have another drink? This time, bourbon?”
I nodded and poured him a glass. Then I slid it down the bar top. He took a long swig from the glass. I noticed how his gaze flickered back and forth from Silas to me. I noticed how he had a slight blush on his cheeks. I couldn’t tell if the blush was because of Silas or me. Either way, I was curious.
I leaned back against the wall that held all of my bar’s liquor. I grab a glass and pour some ice and water into it. I took a long sip. The music playing over the speakers hummed a tune I was unfamiliar with.
“When I close up the bar, do you two wanna stay while I clean? It’d be nice to catch up with you and Silas?”
Both of their heads snapped up and nodded.
Silas was the first to speak. “Yeah, I’d be okay with that. Could you also get me a bourbon?”
I smiled and poured him a glass as well before I slid the glass down to him. I started wiping down the bar.
“Yeah, sure, I’d like to catch up with you, too, and get to know Silas better.”
Silas smiled at Kai. “Yeah? I want to get to know you, too. I plan on staying in town. I think it’s doing me good.”
I smiled at him. “I’m glad Abita Springs isn’t all that bad. We have a good community for the most part.”
“Yeah, we aren’t too bad. If you ever need a guy friend to hang out with or whatever, there’s a good fishing spot near the bayous I could show you.” Kai spoke up with another slight flush to his cheeks.
“Really, I do like fishing; it’s calming and quiet.”
I smiled as I watched them bond. It made my heart flutter, and my cheeks heat up. They were both attractive and my type. What the f**k was I thinking… I shook my head and went back to helping my patrons.
Finally, I locked up the doors. I poured us all a glass of whiskey and handed Silas and Kai both a glass. I knocked mine back in one gulp. I make a face as the liquid burns down my throat.
“So, Kai, it’s been a few years. Where did you run off to? Your mom said you were dating someone and moved out that way.”
“Yeah, that’s what happened. Turned out she wasn’t a good person… So we broke it off. So I moved back here.”
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.”
But I was really sorry because I had always found him attractive… Both Kai and Silas finished their drinks.
Silas speaks up with a small smile. “f**k the last relationship I had was toxic. She was an Elf and was always thinking I was screwing around behind her back. She’d track me, call me every hour. So, I get it, and I, too, am sorry you had to go through that.”
“Thanks, you seem like an alright guy. What brought you to our s**t ass town?”
“Well, I needed to get away and work on myself.”
I look over at Silas. “Hey, it’s okay, I know we haven’t known each other long, but I’m glad you’re working on your addictions.”
Kai looks slightly confused and rests a hand on Silas’ shoulder.
“Thanks, Iris. I’m glad we met. Being addicted to blood is f*****g annoying. I don’t understand why a day walker can’t drink blood without getting f*****g addicted, were vampires too.”
“Wait, day walkers, get addicted to blood when they consume it?” Kai’s eyes went wide, and he took a sharp inhale. “f**k, I didn’t know that.”
“Yeah, it’s because we don’t need it to survive or whatever, which I don’t know how true that is.’
I started to wipe down the tables. “Yeah, I heard my mother say the same thing. I find it odd because day walkers still have a good amount of vampire genes…”
I threw the dirty rag into the bucket for dirty towels before returning to start the washer, and then washed my hands. When I got back out, Silas and Kai were both tipsy. Kai’s head was on Silas’ shoulder. They looked cute like that, and I felt my stomach flip. I walked over.
“You two look comfortable.”
Kai righted himself up. His cheeks were flushed, and Silas smirked.
“Aw, don’t be like that. No need to be shy. I don’t judge, and I’m sure Iris ain’t one to judge either.”
“Nah, I’m pansexual, so it doesn’t bother me none, Kai.”
“Same. So, go ahead and be a good boy and lay your head back onto my shoulder, yeah?”
Kai’s face flushed deeper, but he obeyed and lay his head back down on Silas’ shoulder. Kai looked up at me, his gaze flickering over to Silas. I sat down on the other side of Silas and plopped my head down onto his shoulder. Another thing to add to the list of how I’m different from my mother. She would never want us dating or thinking of dating someone other than a powerful magic user, and polyamory was a big no-no.
“You don’t mind, do you, Silas?”
“Nah, Babe, you are good… this is oddly comforting.”
Kai and I nodded in unison. Silas smirked down at me—cocky little bastard. I rolled my eyes at his cocky attitude and playfully slapped his knee.
“Knock it off, you’re too cocky, ya know that?”
“Aw, what you don’t like my cocky attitude?” he purred out.
My face flushed, and Kai started to chuckle. I shot daggers at Kai as if to say, why the f**k are you siding with him? Kai only smirked and stuck his tongue out. What a f*****g brat! I flipped him off playfully, and he placed his hand over his chest, with a look of feigned hurt.
“You are both being little brats… maybe someone should put ya both in your places, hmm? Or would you both like that?”
I squeaked and hid my face against his shoulder. Kai went redder than I’ve ever seen him and scoffed.
“I’d like to see you try!”
Silas grinned. “Is that an invitation there, Kai?”
Kai smirked. “Maybe… Whatcha gonna do to me to put me in my place?” Kai said in a sing-song tone.
Silas stands up and bends Kai over the counter and grinds his hardened c**k against Kai’s skinny jeans. Kai moaned at the friction of Silas’ jean-clad c**k and his jean-clad ass.
