Chapter 4 - Donald's POV

"Alpha, the company just signed a deal with The Metalanic in San Diego." My business assistant informed me as he walked into my office. I was seated across the table in my well-finished office on the last floor of the company, staring up at him blankly as I waited to hear more, but he seemed to have finished speaking. "And what about it?" I asked. "We just found out that the company is owned by the rival Alpha Mikel. I am very sorry we did not find out until the contract was signed already." He said to me, and immediately I rose to my feet. At that moment I stood up, my perfectly tailored suit moving silkily as I stamped my hands on the table. "How could you make such a mistake? How could you not confirm the original ownership of the company before signing a deal? You know Mikel cannot be trusted; we cannot do business with a fraud!" I yelled at him. My anger was rising rapidly. "I am very sorry, Alpha." He apologised, but those apologies were not helping matters. "Do I look like I need some apologies? Why have you not cancelled the deal yet?" I asked him out of anger. "Alpha, we could not because the nature of the agreement says that we cannot be cancelled until it is completed. That is the reason it has been a major issue since we discovered the original ownership of the company," he said to me, and it was at that moment that I realised the amount of trouble they had managed to gather up for me. Alpha Mikel was one of those ruthless Alphas who would stop at nothing to make sure that they dethrone me from the Lycan Alpha position. I have spent the past 6 years of my reign as Lycan alpha fighting him and his colleagues in the pack, and now I was in a business deal with him, which was already guaranteed to be a failure, except this time, he would not only be aiming at the business deal. I was about to speak when my phone rang. "Alpha, the lady you asked us to keep a trail on, we think she's under attack," one of my bodyguards who I had asked to keep a trail on Cassie said over the phone. "Keep your eyes on her; I'll be right there." I commanded. I did not need to ask where she was because I already could sense her. Without saying any more words to Kennedy, my business assistant, I took my jacket and worked out of the office. As long as she was carrying my pup, I could not let any harm come to her. I had not disclosed her identity to the pack members because my relationship with her was temporary, and again, she was human. Getting to her apartment, I notice her things were being thrown out. "What is going on?" I asked her as she stood by the door, staring in confusion with her arms around her chest. "What are you doing here?" She asked me immediately when she saw me. "I am here to make sure that no harm comes to my pup. Now, are you going to tell me what the heck is going on?" I said curtly as her perceived stubbornness irritated me. "Do I look like I am being harmed? Go away," she said. "You cannot dismiss me; as long as you carry my pup, I am bound to be around you. Why are your things thrown out?" I finally asked her the questions since she was not going to mention it. "Not your business," she said, and was about to walk away when I grabbed her wrist, pulling her back. "In case I have not told you before, if anything should happen to my pup, I will kill you, I will kill everyone that matters to you, and I'll drain your blood until it's all dried up." She had always accused me of threatening her, and this time I was giving her the real threat. I meant every word of what I said. Slowly she recoiled. "My ex-husband sold our house, and now I am very much homeless." She finally opened up, lifting up her gaze to me. For the first time since we've met, she stared at me longer than 3 seconds. "Well, don't you have, like, at least a family or friend you could go and stay with until you are able to get back on your feet or fix this?" I asked. "Well, my parents died five years ago, both of them in an accident, and the one family I had left was my husband. So yeah, it's as complicated as that. This home was what I had left; I and Andrew paid for it together. I can't believe he sold it behindd my back." I did not want to pay attention to the details. She seemed too complicated, but then we needed to find the solution. "Come and live with me. I have this very big mansion, and you would have enough space; no one would even notice you," I said, staring at her. "Donald or whatever your name is, my life is already messed up when I think about how I am carrying a wolf child, and now you want me to come and live with you, a wolf?" She asked. "Well, if you have some other ways to sort yourself out, consider the offer gone. I don't need a human in my house either," I said and looked away. "If you are so wealthy like you claim, why don't you just get me a house instead of giving me the ridiculous offer of coming to live with you? You know I can't do that." "Have you forgotten that I would be paying you every dime you have spent on this pregnancy, and I will be paying you a lot more compensation on top of it? I am a businessman and a wolf. I don't go around offering charity works like you humans do. If you hate my offer so much, go find yourself a place to stay, but make sure that my pup isn't hurt." "You're crazy, you know that?" She was fired. "Watch it," I warned. I wasn't very cool with people cursing at me. "I'll think about your offer, but this is super ridiculous." She finally said, and with that I turned around to leave when she said again. "You know what? There is nothing to think about. I just want my solitude when we get there," she said. I instructed my guards to take her things into the car as we drove down to my mansion together. "Taylor, I want you to wipe every human identity she has. Nobody must know she's human," I instructed my chief guard. "Yes, Sir." "Now, there are some rules you must follow," I said to her as we walked into her own section of the mansion. It had everything. Like an apartment of its own. "Rules?" "Yeah, rules. To guarantee your safety here and also earn you the solitude you desperately want," I replied curtly. "What are they?" "First and important, you must not let anyone around here know you're human. You must pretend to be a wolf." "What the heck?" She yelled. Just then, a knock came on the door, and Taylor walked in. "Alpha, a few council members demand to see your Luna." He reported. I knew they would be quick to come, but I was worried about her going to face them unprepared. "Are you ready?" I asked her. "To do what exactly?" She fired. "To pretend, Cassie! This is your life now! If they find out you're human, they'll kill you!" I yelled, making her recoil in fear. "Just come with me and do not say anything," I added. We walked out to the living room and met a few council members already seated, waiting to welcome her. It was customary, and they were only fulfilling their duties as council members. Suddenly, the door opened, and Venessa walked in, a friend of mine. She smiled at me but was startled at the sight of Cassie. "Cassandra Foster?" She exclaimed. Damn it, somebody inside knew who Cassie was.
