We got this. My wolf Ari says. For the first time in a year, I almost believe her.
I have been running for a year and it's really taken a toll. Even in wolf form I am skin and bones. My once fluffy, soft fur has fallen out in patches, my rib bones are visible, and my eyes are lifeless and sunken in. My human form is much worse. I look like an extra from a zombie movie. My eyes are listless, sunken in, and the once ocean blue color has faded to a deathly grey. My hair is long, dull, knotted, and there's always twigs and leaves I can't seem to get out. I'm lucky if I can eat 3 times a week so my rib bones, collar bone, and just about every other bone sick out like a sharp reminder of how malnourished I really am. My skin used to be a radiant alabaster color, but it lost it's radiance long ago. However, lately I've noticed large patches, almost like giant grey bruises, that are forming all over my body. They are appearing everywhere. My wolf says I am finally dieing, just slowly. So when Ari says, "we got this," I am not sure what "this" is.
I can only guess that Ari thinks we are approaching a peaceful place to die. It's been a while since I have heard the howls that haunt my dreams. Alpha Callious probably called his dogs (HA! I still make myself laugh) off by now. I am sure they don't want to waste their time on the walking dead. Hell, I can't even shift anymore.
This past year has shown me the dark side of humanity. I may be a warewolf, but we are still part human, and being human isn't all it's cracked up to be. A year ago my pack was obliterated. The only reason I survived was because I was breaking the rules and trying to sneak into the apple orchard ahead of schedule to sneak a ripe apple, if I could find one. Sine the apple orchard was located on the far east side of our territory, and the attack came from the west, the orchard was the last to be burned. I watched in horror as my pack died and burned. I had no choice. Our Alpha, Alpha Luke, saw me sneak to the orchard, and ordered me using his Alpha power to stay away and run. I could only resist for so long befor tucking my tail between my legs and running.
It didn't take me long to figure out who was responsible. Only one Alpha practiced a scorched earth policy when taking over other packs: Alpha Callious. Unfortunately, one of his scouts saw me run, and that's how I got to where I am today. I have avoided going to other packs because I don't want them to suffer the same fate. I once thought I could make it to the Alpha King, but I did not realize how far away he actually was. Running from California to Maine is not easy. Even for a she-wolf.
So here I am. Starving, Running, and looking for a soft, quiet place to die.
