Masked 29
Amelia rolled away from the ray of sun spilling into her room, she pulled the pillow over her head and groaned sleepily. This was the best sleep she had since her accident.
She groaned when the sun became unbearable, she remembered closing the blind last night because of this, but a delicious scent of waffles and a creamy coffee dragged out of her sleepy state. She adjusted her drowsy eyes to the white-painted room before her gaze traveled to where the delicious scent came from.
"Good morning Luna Amelia," Bella greeted, her smile spreading through her face.
Amelia sat up, arching her brow while studying her. She looked so happy today, she loved seeing Bella happy but her grin was suspicious. "So you can come to me after you ran away yesterday."
Bella grinned walking away from the window. "I knew you would get it handled. I trust you." She carefully placed the food tray on the coffee table in front of a black couch and straightened up. "You were sleeping when I came to check up on you yesterday."
Amelia shrugged, pretending to be angry. "I thought you were supposed to have my back."
Bella rubbed the back of her head nervously and Amelia let out a warm laugh seeing her nervous. Her laugh made Bella at ease.
"I will eat after I brush."She announced, stepping down from the bed. Bella nodded with a smile and Amelia hurried to the ensuite so her breakfast wouldn't be so cold when she was done.
Bella had been the best thing that had happened to her since she got to Alexander's pack, she was glad she saved her that night. Though Bella was her maid, she would never treat her as one which made Bella to be free with her. She was only teasing her about running away yesterday.
Alpha King terrified Bella which wasn't surprising, even she; Amelia was scared of her contracted husband.
Sometime later, she was done eating and Bella was almost done cleaning her room. She was enjoying a fiction book Hazel bought for her, it was about a woman betrayed by her husband and she was getting revenge on him.
She suddenly remembered she needed to visit Hazel about the Alpha council meeting. She got dressed quickly in a floral lilac dress that flowed down her knees with long sleeves.
It was summer and the heat was unbearable but she couldn't display her scars to the world, so she preferred the heat. She paused and Bella halted behind her. She watched the familiar figure standing by a car, a middle-aged man stood beside her, his hands by her waist as they guided her in.
Zoe turned back like she knew she was being watched, she held Amelia's gaze for a while. Something about that gaze screamed danger, it made her unsettled but she pushed the thought away. Alpha King already taught her some lessons, Zoe wouldn't dare mess with her anymore.
The man beside her turned and Amelia swallowed holding his cold gaze, wondering what was going on in Alpha Johnson's head. She was ready for the eye contact competition but she needed to get to Hazel.
She pushed her gaze away and focused on her way to Hazel's home. The palace is divided into three where Hazel lived on the northern side while she lived on the Southern side with Alpha King though two floors divide them. She wasn't sad about that, it meant she wouldn't get to see him every day which she loved. Beta Lopez lived on the western side but visited the southern side almost every day.
"Aunty Amelia," A sweet voice squealed when she walked down Hazel's narrow foyer to the sitting room. A bright smile appeared on her face as Halo ran into her open arms.
"Baby Halo," She picked her up and brushed out the hair that stuck on her face when running to her. “How are you doing?”
Halo's bright smile was dull. “I miss you, mummy said you are sick and you aren't ready for visitors.” She listed playing with Amelia's hair, her lips pushed forward sadly.
Amelia giggled, adjusting Halo on her waist. “Aunty Amelia is back now and she is ready to play with you.”
“Yay,” Halo threw her hand up excitedly hugging Amelia tightly.
Amelia wrapped her arms around her enjoying the warmth the little girl gave. “But for now let me speak with mummy first.” Halo nodded with a wide grin then Amelia placed her on the ground carefully and spirited away, but surprisingly Halo who was laughing with her now crouched beside her nanny putting distance between them.
The Omega sighed sadly as she tried to touch her and Halo flinched. She would have loved to inspect what was happening between them, but she needed to meet Hazel.
Following the instructions the Omega gave her, she finally got to Hazel's study room. The door didn't close fully displaying Hazel sitting behind a desk, her gaze focused on the laptop before her. She looked beautiful with no makeup and a furrowed eyebrow.
She wasn't someone to eavesdrop or peek on someone, she was about to make her presence known when Hazel snickered while rubbing her shoulders absentmindedly.
She wasn't alone. Who could be with her? Amelia was still thinking when Beta Lopez came behind Hazel. Amelia's eyes widened a bit watching his every move, he gently wrapped Hazel's hair in a messy bun. It was subtle but she could see Hazel stiffed when he started massaging her shoulders.
Wait, is Amelia dreaming right now?
“How did you know I was stressed?” Hazel asked, glancing up to look at Lopez. The moment still, they held each other's gaze and Amelia could feel the tension between them.
“I'm a smart ass,” Beta Lopez winked and that made the spell vanish from Hazel's eyes. She hissed playfully focusing back on her laptop.
“My hands are useful for different things than this also.”
Amelia gasped silently. Did Beta Lopez just flirt with Hazel? That was hot! The tension between them was high.
As much as she loved to continue watching them, she couldn't. It would be so bad if they caught her. She walked backward gently, making no sounds while dragging Bella who stood behind her along, she was grateful Bella didn't see a thing.
Bella stared at her confused but Amelia shrugged and spoke way too loud to announce her presence. “Hazel house is cozy.”
Bella smiled timidly. “Yes, Luna.” She whispered and Amelia shared a weird glance, she wouldn't have believed that Bella was shy with other people except her.
The door opened fully revealing Beta Lopez and they halted. "Luna Amelia," He greeted softly.
Amelia bit her lips to stop her from grinning. "Beta Lopez," She greeted with the same soft tone. Hazel's charm was really working on him because Beta Lopez had never been this soft.
He walked past her while Hazel stood by the door spreading her arms widely for her. "Amy," She called happily.
Amelia walked into her embrace smiling sheepishly. "Hazel," She inhaled her sweet fragrance. "I miss you."
Hazel pulled back examining her face. "I miss you too." She grabbed her hands and walked into her study room leaving Bella outside the room.
"Don't wait here, have some fun." Amelia mouthed to Bella who nodded eagerly.
"Alpha King told me about the council meeting." Hazel started as she sat on the couch. She patted the space beside her for Amelia and continued. "Don't worry I got you covered."
Amelia exhaled deeply, rubbing her thumbs together. "I'm nervous."
"You should be. I won't lie that the meeting isn't scary, but I know you will scale through."
"You have that much trust in me?"
Hazel held her gaze, rubbing her palms. "I believe in you, did you believe in yourself?"
Amelia paused, staring ahead. Did she trust herself? For half of her life, she had been constantly reminded of how stupid she was. She wasn't enough for anything, her title was snatched from her because of her wolfless state. She was sold here because she didn't have a choice but now she had the chance to prove to people that she could do it.
Sighing heavily. "I do."
