Chapter 14 Amelia's POV Amelia shifted right and left uncomfortably in King's room, she had been here forever or it felt so. The cold atmosphere in the room sent chills down her spine, she wanted to be anywhere but his room. King's gray eyes pinned on her across the room, they were darker and colder than normal. He crossed his hands over his chest while he sat at the edge of the desk. Unable to stomach the silence, she cleared her throat and shifted her gaze from the oak bookshelf behind him to King. "Alpha King, what did I do?" She questioned, her voice soft and unsteady. King dropped his folded hands and fixed her glare. "What is the meaning of the nonsense I am hearing around tonight?" Amelia blinked in confusion shifting away from the door. "I…I don't know what you are talking about." She reflected on her day and didn't remember doing anything wrong or saying anything wrong as well, but King's uptight face proved otherwise. "Who was that on your bed?" Amelia tensed for a moment before she breathed out in relief and walked further into the room feeling comfortable. "Oh Bella, you won't believe what happened?" She said enthusiasm ignoring King's expressionless face. Chills ran through her as she remembered the issue that happened almost three hours ago. "She was being harassed by one of the guards and luckily she was saved by me." A small smile brightened her face knowing she saved a poor soul. If only someone had saved her when Thomas tried to assault but she was glad he was never successful. She glanced at King and her smile wiped off seeing his hardened face, she never expected him to smile at her in approval for what she did, but she wasn't expecting his face to be colder than before "I didn't ask you." He shrugged, pulling off from the desk. Amelia blinked in confusion. "Nothing else happened then." King c****d his head at her. "Really? Why am I hearing that you threatened someone with your position, that you are an Alpha and would soon dethrone someone important." Amelia gasped with widened eyes. "Me?" She shouted with her mouth wide and her hands placed on her chest. "I will never say something like that. Why would I even say that? I only saved_" "Stop lying." He snapped, his cold voice booked through the room. Amelia sniffed retreating until her back hit the wall, her eyes burned for holding back tears. She hated being lied against, Nova made it constant to lie about her and everyone believed her. "I'm not." Her voice broke, coming out as below whisper but she knew King heard her because his left eye twitched before he shook his head. "I understand you are not going to choose me over your pack members__" "Stay in your lane and mind your business." He snapped, cutting her up. "Don't use my name against my people again or lie about something you are not. Next time I hear about dethroning won't end well for you." Amelia's jaw dropped surprised, this hurt so much, and King not believing her made her feel like a thrash. How does he support someone wrong over her, amazing her? She wiped the tears threatening to fall as she raised her slumped shoulders. He kept surprising her every day but today, she wouldn't agree to what he said. How did the rumor spread? It must have been that crazy Gamma. The look he gave her when he was leaving showed that he wasn't done with her. She stared into King's sharp gray eyes, anger brewing in them sent chills down her spine but she swallowed back her fears as she said her mind. "I'm sorry but I won't watch your pack member assault someone, and mind my business." She said, her voice coming out sharper than she imagined without breaking eye contact. He gritted his teeth not liking that she defiled him, she shrugged and uttered the next sentence that shouldn't have come to her head let alone left her mouth. "No wonder you kill your first wife!" She clamped her hand over her mouth the second the statement left her mouth. "I'm sorry…I don't mean it." She rushed her words, shaking her head and denying it almost immediately. She clamped her palms together begging for forgiveness, staring at him with sincere guilty-filled eyes but she knew it was too late. She expected King to be furious, holding her neck now but he didn't. He stood still staring at her, for the first time, King's emotion slipped showing how hurt he was, but they disappeared just as the emotion shown but she saw it. His gray eyes damped with anger, his hands clutched beside him as he glared at her. She could see his power rising, the struggle he was doing to keep his wolf at bay. What if he couldn't and he unleashed his wolf? Her mouth had definitely killed her today. 'What was she thinking?' She scolded herself biting deep on her lower lips. Killing his wife was a popular rumor among all the packs, strengthening the fear people had for him. Amelia promised herself never to judge a person on a rumor yet, she just did that. King's silence only added to her anxiety making his next words throw her overboard. "So much for someone who hated being addressed with a rumor." Amelia watched as he stalked closer to her, her mind telling her to run but her legs refused to comprehend. His burning gaze fixed on her as she stayed glued to the ground. "You believed what you heard just like every other person." The pain and anger in his voice were evident, and her heart shattered. "I'm sorry_" His hold on her neck knocked the rest of the words out of her. He made her glance into his burning gaze, she could feel the anger burning her also. The pain from his tight hold was nothing compared to the pain in his eyes. "Yes, I killed my wife. If that is what you heard then so be it." Terror dripped out of his voice as he tightened his hold against her neck, losing control completely. Amelia's eyes filled with tears as she held his hand looking at him pleadingly, he would kill her if he lost control completely. "Plea...se." Her voice broke at each letter barely able to form any word. "Liliana was attacked with wolfsbane which left her in everlasting pain. She begged me to kill her when the pain became unbearable." Amelia's eyes softened upon hearing that, and her heart broke into pieces. She had accused him of being wrong. "I'm sorry." Her voice broke but King scoffed, moving away from her. His gray darkened as he stared at the door instead of Amelia. "Get out!" "Alpha__ "I said get out!" Amelia sped out at the thundering command, she didn't stop until she got into her room and locked the door. She slumped to the bed breathing heavily, tears fell from her eyes as she stared at the blank ceiling. She rubbed her neck, she knew how bruised it would be now. Alpha King looked broken, he must have hurt to kill your wife by yourself. She could only imagine the intensification of the pain he went through. Her heart aches for him making her tears fall harder. Why was she crying for him? It annoyed her that she judged someone based on rumors, she knew how it felt to be judged on baseless rumor. It hurts to see someone you love in pain and not be able to do anything about it, and then people start judging you wrongly on that. She sat up and that was when she realized that Bella was no more in the room. Where on earth did she go that night? Is she scared of being alone? She pushed the thought aside hoping Bella was okay wherever she was. She slid her feet into her flip-flops as she staggered to the ensuite to shower, she couldn't sleep with this sweat even when her whole body was sore from running. She just can't, they called her a clean freak back at her pack and here, she was glad to have her private ensuite. Amelia stepped into the shower, pushing all the thoughts about King away and focusing on hers. It's almost a month since she got here and she hadn't found anything to do, this was the opportunity she had to have a better life after leaving here. She couldn't go back to her old life, washing and cleaning for Nova again. That must never be her! She must only go back to her pack to seek revenge but she has no idea how to do it. At this point, she had no choice but to succumb to King's wish and work for him. She needed to buy a phone to spy on Nova and Thomas before saving up for the next two years. She stepped out of the shower overwhelmed with the fact that she had to work under King for two years. Nothing scared her more than that. Amelia was on her way to the closet to change when she saw it, a strange envelope on her bed. Fear crept into her soul as she searched around her room for any intruder, but found none. She swallowed her lump before walking to the bed. Didn't she lock her door earlier? She remembered locking it vividly, and that only heightened her fear. Someone picked her door to drop the envelope, she wasn't safe here anymore, her hands trembled as she grabbed the letter and tore it open. The words written on it made her knees wobble. "MEET ME IN THE WOODS OUTSIDE THE PALACE AT NOON TOMORROW. YOU CAN SKIP TO KNOW THE CIRCUMSTANCES."
