Amelia stood rigid in her room, her room had never been cold, so out of life. Beta Lopez fixed his cold gaze on her, giving her no chance to give an excuse.
His huge stature made the room feel tiny, Alpha King only had a small height over him. Lopez being in his room scared her, what could be wrong? He had never stepped into her room and how the hell did he get the key to her room?
Lopez squared his shoulders repeating his words. "We need to talk."
"Talk to me about what?" She stretched the words, moving away from the door. Her heart pounded in her chest with different thoughts running through her mind. What if he knew about her meeting with Alpha Owen?
Beta Lopez narrowed his gaze on her, gawking at her from head to toe, which made her shift uncomfortably at where she stood. "Where are you coming from?"
Amelia's heart skipped, she swallowed her lump before meeting his gaze unbothered, hiding her fear.
"I don't think you should be worried about that." She answered, defiantly even when her insides were breaking. Why was he asking her this question on this particular afternoon? She doesn't care, she must not act suspiciously at all costs.
"I saw you." Those three words from him broke her, her knees wobbling so badly that she stumbled backward, her fears visible on her face. She thought it was a joke but his hard glare showed otherwise. "I saw you with King's father Amelia," He repeated, this time firm and harsh.
Amelia's heart dropped to her stomach. Her skin tingled with fear. "How…When?" She stuttered, then it dawned on her. The strange eyes she saw staring at her earlier belonged to Beta Lopez.
Sweat rolled down her back, she had gotten herself into bigger trouble. Beta Lopez wouldn't spare her, he would make sure King inflicted pain on her.
"Why did you meet with him?" He asked, terror dripping out of his voice as he stalked towards her. His hand balled into a tight fist.
Amelia became dumb, doubting if to speak the truth. She inhaled and explained everything to him, from receiving a strange letter to finding out it was Alpha Owen.
Lopez's breath became sharpened, and his claws dug into his palm when she was done.
"Bastard." Amelia's eyes widened hearing that from him. It hadn't reached that level of him calling her a bastard.
She angled her brow at him. "You shouldn't…
"Alpha Owen and his stupid scheme." His next words cut her off and she felt a bit of relief knowing it wasn't her. But she wasn't okay knowing Lopez's next question would be about what Alpha Owen told her and that was where the problem lies.
"Why did you reject his offer?"
"Huh?"
"I don't want to be caught in their fight, it's none of my business." She sighed exasperatedly. "But I'm already in deep s**t, you must have heard that Alpha Owen threatened_promise to take me out."
At her words, Lopez inhaled sharply moving away from her as he shrugged. "Then be careful and stay in your lane."
Amelia gasped, not believing her ears. "What did you mean by that? He promised to kill me and you said I should be careful, am I not careful enough?"
Felix arched his brow at her then scoffed out a laugh. "Careful enough? You went to the woods because of an ordinary letter, no gun or sword to your neck. Need I remind you that you walked into trouble by yourself? Are you forced by anyone, Amelia?"
Amelia opened her mouth and closed it. Gosh, she behaved stupidly today. He was right, no one forced her, and she was trying to cajole him into saving her.
Felix hissed walking to the door, he grabbed the doorknob and exhaled before turning to her. "You did the right thing by rejecting his offer, but for you to save yourself" He leveled his gaze with her. "It may be hard Amelia, but try to be on a good side with your husband. That's the only way to live in peace in the palace." He said before opening the door and stepping out.
Amelia didn't know how long she stared at the door, Felix's words replaying in her head. She walked to the bed absent-mindedly, everyone wanted her to be close to Alpha King when all she wanted to do was to stay in her lane, away from him for the next two years.
It seemed impossible now, she rubbed her hurting heart and inhaled. She would do anything just to survive.
A knock came up on the door and she rose to her feet immediately. "Who is there?" Her voice, sharpened as she gazed at the door.
"It's me, Luna," Bella's voice came up and she sighed taking back her seat. "Come in."
The door swung open immediately. "My Luna, where have…" She paused when her eyes met with Amelia, they widened with shock while she rushed to her. "Luna, what happened to you?" She panicked removing the twig on her hair.
Amelia grabbed her hand and smiled. "Nothing serious."
Bella blinked, not believing her but shrugged. "Never mind, I will prepare a bath for you." She said rushing to the ensuite leaving no room for any excuse. A bright smile appeared on Amelia's face, maybe a hot bath was all she needed now.
…
"I want to use the kitchen, Bella."
"Kitchen?" She halted from the dirty clothes she was packing into the laundry basket. "Is there any reason, Luna?"
Amelia swallowed her food before dropping the spoon. "I need to bake something urgently."
"Oh, you can use the royal kitchen."
Amelia pushed the half-eating food away and stood up. "Leave that and take me there."
