The reason behind the mask

Chapter 9 KING King watched Zoe blankly as she trailed her long sleek fingers on his chest downward, disgust twisted his stomach in contrast to the pleasure he'd derived from that. They were now in the middle of his room. Grimacing, he pushed her hands away, Zoe had been his favorite mistress for years, she knew exactly what to do for him to release but tonight. He felt nothing with her touch. The reason for that lunged at the back of his mind but he pushed it away, nothing or no one would spoil his fun tonight. Zoe's eyes lit up with lust as she moved away from his thighs and dragged her zipper downward, her dress slipped down in a flash and just like every other time, she had nothing under it. "My Alpha, should I dance?" She purred, staring at him with lust-filled eyes. Her seductive voice irritated him, Amelia's pure voice replayed in his head, it wasn't slurry like Zoe's. s**t, why on earth did he compare Amelia to his mistress? Zoe blinked in confusion. "My Alpha." She called, striding towards him. She placed her hands on his chest, her brown eyes stared innocently into his. "You aren't responding, is something wrong?" King grabbed her hand and yanked it away from his chest, she gasped at the harsh treatment but he spared her no glance as he walked away from her. He understood Zoe's astonishment, he had never rejected her advance. Zoe was a beautiful lady, her beautiful curves stood out but something made her different from Amelia, innocence. Gosh, he was doing it again. He closed his eyes and snapped them open, and they were dark and void of any emotions. "Get out." "What?" Zoe yelled, storming to his front. "Is it because of that thing we saw earlier, is she better than me?" King's eyes darkened as he glared at her. "That thing has a name, and she is my wife. Now get out!" He snapped his voice with a tone of finality. Zoe stared at him, mouth ajar with her hand folded into a tight fist beside her. "Okay." She grumbled, snatching her dress from the floor. She kept murmuring as she dressed up before she ambled to the door. "And I don't want to see you again." He added before she stepped out. Zoe swirled to him, her eyes burning with anger but she nodded obediently. "Yes, Alpha." She affirmed before closing the door behind her. "f**k," King punched the nearest wall beside him. What was wrong with him? Turning down s*x for a mere contract marriage. He glanced down at his hardened length and shook his head, he was turned on yet he couldn't continue. He had been with Zoe for years, she was the only one that could handle him but seeing Amelia crying tonight, he was conflicted. "Damnit." He cursed walking to his vanity table, he brought out a tissue and cleaned the blood on the knuckles. After that he carefully removed his mask and dumped it among the rest, a half-healed scar glared at him and he snapped his eyes closed, memories flowing back to his head like it was just happening. "Grab the bastard, are you telling me you six can't hold a fifteen years old boy?" The rogue leaders yelled, but King thrashed against their hold not minding the fresh cut on his body. His eyes met with his younger sister lying lifelessly on the floor and anger fueled in him. "Leave me alone__Daisy is dying." He screamed helplessly, and they all burst into a loud laugh tightening their hold on him. "That's the goal, wolfless prince, now hold his face for me." The leader snickered as he climbed King's body, the silver knife he held shining at the sun reflecting on it. "I'm going to destroy you so that you will hate yourself." He laughed before slashing King's face. "Ahhh," King's voice tore through the forest and he snapped his eyes open suddenly, sweat rolling down his forehead. His erratic breath filled the room as he gripped the table's edge tightly, his knuckles were all white. The memories are back after years, he had adapted to the nightmares and now, the memories are back. His biggest fear was the fear of sitting alone and slipping back into time. He inhaled heavily pushing the thoughts back, he just needed to get the keys that his father had hidden. That man had been blackmailing him for years because he had the book of spells that could control the rogues, now King needed to get the key to the place he hid the book. 'All I need is the key and I will be okay.' The knock at the door snapped him out of reverie. "Who is there?" His harsh voice cut through the room as he grabbed his mask. Everybody knew better than to disturb him by this time so it's better worth it. "Brother," Hazel's tear-choked voice made him jump up from the chair. Hazel only referred to him as brother when she was at the lowest point in her life. Hazel threw herself on him immediately he pulled the door open, and he stiffened for a moment before he wrapped his hand around her and shut the door closed. They stood in that position for minutes till Hazel's loud cry gradually reduced to a low sob as he rubbed her back, and he folded his hand by his side gritting his teeth. He prayed it wasn't someone who made her feel this way, they were so going to regret themselves. When her sob reduced, he pulled away from her gently and walked them to the sofa in his room. "What happened Princess?" He demanded, as softly as possible before he stood up to get her a glass of water. "Here." He passed to her while he had his seat back. "Thank…you," Hazel sniffed, collecting the water and drinking a bit before setting it down on the coffee table. "Are you ready to talk?" He asked brushing away the hair that stuck to her face. Hazel nodded gently, cleaning her eyes. "I miss my mate, I wish he was here not dead, alive with me and watching our daughter grow." Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke. King rubbed her hands gently, he took in a deep breath clueless on how to console her. This was the only matter that'd made him speechless, because the guilt had eaten him deep. Henry died on a battlefield while saving him. Hazel sniffed. "I…I know I shouldn't come to you for this… "No! Don't stop coming to me. I'm here for this." He cut her off, moving closer to her. Hazel's tear-filled eyes made his heart tugged and he pulled her in a hug. "Henry didn't plan to leave you and Halo alone so early, and he won't like seeing you like this." He pulled away and palmed her face, looking softly into her eyes. "Did anyone hurt or abuse you?" Hazel shifted her gaze from his and shook her head. "No…nobody hurt me." King was silent watching how she avoided his gaze, he shrugged it off knowing If she was ready, she would discuss it with him. "Okay but don't hesitate to let me know if anyone did." Hazel swallowed. "Okay." She replied then inhaled before turning to him. "Let me attend to your face." King stood up in haste and walked to the vanity table. "Don't worry, I will." Hazel was the only one who had the chance to see his unmasked face. It took him years to allow her to see his face after realizing she wouldn't open up about her life if he was keeping it a secret from her, but Hazel attending to his face would be something he would never accept. He took a seat on the chair and picked up a clean napkin. He dabbed it gently on his face, though it stitched he made no sound. Hazel stood up and walked to him. "Okay," She sighed standing behind him. "I think I like Amelia, she is nice and friendly" King's shoulder stiffened, "Getting close to her will shatter your hope, refrain from her, or better still don't like her." Hazel grumbled. "I can't, she__" King swirled his head to him sharply, his eyes darkened. "I don't want to have this conversation." He ordered sharply and turned away from her. His hold on the napkin tightened, hearing Amelia's name everywhere was becoming annoying, he even referred to her as his wife today, and now his sister liked her. Amelia was manipulative and he would make sure to stop her soon. "Okay," Hazel swallowed, rolling her eyes childishly. "Just that Halo loved her, she allowed___ "Halo what?" Hazel nodded with an unbelievable smile. "I was also shocked seeing Halo playing with her, something that had never happened." King wondered what charm Amelia had on his little niece, since Henry died, Halo withdrew from everybody, even him. She stopped letting anybody touch her except her mother. He smirked, whatever Amelia had on her sleeves, he must surely know today. He picked up a black mask from the tons of masks he had and clipped it on his face. "Where are you going?" "To Amelia's" Panic struck Hazel as she rushed to him, she pulled his hand and stared at him pleadingly. "Are you going to hurt her, she did nothing, I swear." King's lip curled up. "No princess, not to hurt her, at least I can promise that but all others I can't say." He caressed her hair before walking away.
