ROWAN The gurgling of blood filled my ears. Sounds intensified every second my eyes were closed, like it was happening again. My mind clearly remembered every fear inducing moment and replayed them like an old video recording—with the changes in frame and the sound of the projector going.   I could still feel the blood trickling through my fingers. I could still see Nate pain stricken. I could still see Daniel’s panic setting on his face.   There was so much blood. It’s true what they say about seeing the life drain out of someone.   I wasn’t afraid of those close to me getting hurt.   No, I was afraid of the aftermath, of being left utterly alone.   I opened my eyes to the empty conference room.
