A few weeks went by and Ray was back to his hold self. I stared in the mirror at my black eye and groaned. Chase was not going to be happy. I picked up my foundation and tried putting it on my sponge then I noticed it was empty. I panicked and dumped my makeup box out. I knew I had another foundation somewhere. I had to. I could not be out. Not with this black eye.
“Ah ha!” I cheered, finding a brand new one.
I applied the makeup and looked one last time. I wanted to look like I wasn’t punched in the face. I had a work and Chase would loose his s**t.
“Ray can you see the black eye?” I asked, coming out of the room and heading to the front door.
“Nope. And keep it that way.” He demanded.
I growled and slammed the front door shut as I walked out. I was so tired of his s**t. I got in my car and slammed the door shut. I just wanted to get to Chase at this point. Luckly, work was only a 10 minute drive away. Which went by fast. Pulling into the spot next to Chases car, I almost didn’t turn my car off. I ran out of the car and into his arms.
“Kali?! What’s wrong?” He asked, panic in his voice.
I looked up and I could tell he could see the black eye. He growled and pulled me closer.
“You really need to leave. I care about you too much to let him beat you like this!”
“I am trying Chase. I have about $2,300 saved up in a secret account. I’m waiting till I have at least $7,000 before I make a run for it. As soon as I am in a safe place, I’m calling the cops.”
“Stay with me. You would be completely safe with me and my brother there.” He offered.
“I can’t do that. If he follows me home, he would hurt you.”
“What if you park your car in the garage and I will take you places until he’s in jail? That way he doesn’t recognize the type of car.”
“But what if he sees me somewhere? It’s to risky Chase. Maybe a motel near you? You could stay with me if you’d like.”
He sighed and rolled his eyes. I knew he didn’t like it, but he complied.
My phone rang and it made us both jump. It was Ray. I accepted the call and took a breath.
“Yes Ray?” I said, slightly annoyed.
“You left the kitchen a mess from making your lunch and the bathroom sink has your makeup everywhere! What the hell?!” He yelled.
“Ray I am sorry. I was running late. It took me 20 minutes to cover this dam bruise!” I yelled back.
I refused to listen to his screaming so I hung up the phone a started crying. Chase grabbed my shoulders and hugged me close to his chest. Stroking my hair, he growled.
“That’s it. Get in the car. We are going to my place. Leave your car here just in case. I will bring you back later.” He ordered.
I wanted to protest, but he was not having it. I complied and got into his car. It smelled like weed and his cologne. I instantly calmed down half way and sighed. He got in the driver seat and smiled, starting his car. It was only a few minutes before we pulled up to a nice White House with a balcony upstairs and a porch outside. His grass was neatly cut and kept. His garage door opened to a spacious 2 car garage. Slowly pulling in, he stopped and closed the garage door. He got out and walked over to my door.
“Welcome to my house. No one’s here since it’s just me and Tyler.” He stated as he pulled me out of the car.
I smiled and looked around. He led me to a door that was opened to a kitchen. Pulling me upstairs he walked into the master bedroom. They must have recently moved in because boxes were piled in one corner and clothes were thrown in the other, in two piles.
"Did you just move in?" I asked, looking at all the boxes.
"Yeah. 2 months ago." He replied.
I smiled and looked around. His bed was huge. A Nightmare Before Christmas blanket covered the mattress
"Nice blanket. I love that movie." I smiled.
He laughed and laid on the bed. Looking at me, he patted the bed.
"Come on. We can smoke if ya want." He offered, pulling out a bong.
I sat on the bed and took the bong. He held the lighter close to the bowl and lit it. I inhaled long and hard. My lungs filled and I coughed slightly. He took the bong and chuckled. He waited until I caught my breath and handed the bong back. I took another hit and held it in longer. He took his turn while I held mine in. We passed it back and forth for a few minutes until we both knew we were high. I took one last hit and choked.
"f**k!" I coughed as I blew the smoke out.
"Damn that was a huge hit, Kali." he murmered something else after.
"Sorry. Its been awhile. Ray doesn't let me smoke." I sighed, laying on the bed.
"Really?" He choked while blowing out smoke."
“Yeah. He said I am to stupid high.”
Chase moved closer and chuckled. Lifting his hand to cup my face, he made me look into his chocolate brown eyes. I melted and let out a shiver.
“Well I don’t think your stupid at all. I think your beautiful. And I do not know if it is the weed talking, but I think I have feelings for you and I can’t stand the way he treats you anymore. You deserve better.” He whispered as he stroked my cheek.
“I like you too Chase, but Ray would never let me leave. He would hunt me down until he dies or finds me.” I murdered.
I wanted to kiss him. I wanted to do a lot of other things that shouldn’t be thought. It was not the weed talking either. I have felt this way for along time.
“Kiss me? Please. I need to taste your lips. I have been wanting to for awhile now and I can’t hold back anymore.” He begged.
I did not even hesitate. I leaned in and met his lips. He parted his lips and his tongue slid between my teeth. I could taste the weed. It made me want more. He leaned back, pulling me into his lap as he leaned against the wall. I straddled him as our tongues wrapped around each other. They seemed to dance with each other as we deepened the kiss. His hands found their way down to my ass, as I felt a squeeze. I moaned into the kiss and started to move my hips back and forth.
“f**k Kali.” He moaned out, throwing his head back.
I chuckled and kissed his neck as I moved my hips faster, grinding against his lap. The sound of our breathing and our jeans rubbing against each other was all we could hear. We did not hear his brother knocking at the door until he pounded harder.
“Chase! God damn it you idiot.” His brothers voice finally broke through to us.
Chase looked at me and chuckled. I got off of him and fixed myself before opening the door.
“Chase where do- your not Chase.” He stopped.
“This is Kali Tyler. She’s a friend. Now what do you want?” Chase said, walking up behind me.
“Friend. Oh you mean the abused girl. Where’s the air fryer?”
“Tyler! Shut it. It’s in the closet.” He growled.
“Thanks. Bye.” His brother replied, walking away.
“Abused girl?” I said, a slight growl hinted my anger.
“Kali I-“
I put my hand up as I grabbed my keys. I can’t believe he told his brother.
“Save it Chase. I almost had s*x with you! Ray is going to kick my ass. I’m going home.” I huffed as I grabbed my stuff.
“I only told him because he needed to know. He wants to help. He’s willing to help keep you safe from Ray.” He pleaded.
“Just leave me alone Chase.” I cried as I ran out of the room.
I ran down the hall and out the door. I was paying attention when Chase drove so I knew that sss was just down the street. Luckly it was only 5:45am. I got out at 6am. I pumped my legs as hard as they would until I saw the big sss sign in front of me. Huffing and hunched over I looked at my watch. It took me 15 minutes to run here. It was now 6am. I groaned and searched the parking lot till I found my car.
“Good morning Jay.” I called to the security guard who was doing his rounds.
He waved and smiled. I got in my car and rushed to Norms. I couldn’t go home right now. I was to high and upset. I grabbed my phone and called Ray.
“What Kali?” Ray said after picking up.
“Hey babe. Kate needs me to take them to the doctors for her sons appointment and then to Kates dentist appointment. I won’t be home till about 3. Is that ok?” I shakily said.
“Yeah sure. Why do you sound out of breath?” He questioned.
“Oh. It’s cold outside and I left my jacket in the car so I kinda ran to the car.” I lied.
“Maybe don’t forget your jacket. Listen. I won’t be home tonight anyway. They boys and I are going to a baseball game then Imma crash at Ryan’s.”
“Ok love. I have to go. Love you.” I spat out and hung up.
Taking a deep breath I walked into Norma. Greeting the usual staff I walked to an open table. Sitting down after ordering a coffee and a coke, I dropped my head on the table. Why do I get myself into these kind of situations? Uuuuggghhhhhh. I am so f*****g irritated. I was really hoping Chase was different. I let my thoughts race as I cried. Nothing was ever going to change. Chase was just anther guy who liked to rub it in to his friends that he had some abused girl wrapped around his finger.
“You know Chase is just trying to help Kali.” A slightly familiar voice busted into my head.
I looked up to see Tyler looking down at me, my wallet in his hand.
“You left this in his room and he figured you did not want to see him so he sent me.” He set my wallet down and smiled.
“No offense Tyler, but he is right. I do not want to see him right now. I do not know if I ever want to see him again at this point.” I spat out at him, snatching my wallet and getting up.
“Kali, wait-“ I cut him off with my hand.
“Now if you are not going to order something, please leave. I have a job to do.” I huffed and turned away.
I can not believe that he sent his damn brother to try to talk to me, I groaned in my head.
Why couldn’t they leave me alone. It is not that hard to understand that I do not want to be around them. Chase broke my trust.
“Kali, large party at table 5.” My bosses voice came into my earbud.
I looked in his directions and nodded as I started to dart towards them, notebook in hand. It was like my body flipped into autopilot. Taking orders, running food, cleaning tables, seating guests. I hardly even knew my shift was over, until Kate tripped me.
“f**k!” I yelped as I hit the floor.
Kate laughed and stood there looking down on me. I groaned as I rolled ove to look at her, then started laughing so hard, I almost peed.
“Damn. You could have just called my name.” I breathed as I sat up on the booth.
“I did. We all have been calling you as you dart around the place. Your shift ended 2 hours ago. It is 1pm. Don’t you have somewhere to be?” Kate asked, with a worried look.
“Ray went to a ball game then hes crashing at Ryans.” I shrugged.
Not that I cared anyway. I started becoming numb to his abuse that it didn’t hurt anymore, it was just annoying and time consuming. s**t that is a bad way to think about being beat around by someone you once loved, I thought.
Kate sighed with relief and relaxed into the booth, ordering 2 cokes and some chips, handing me an advil. I mouthed a thank you and took it with the water bottle she slid at me. My head was pounding now that I was sitting still. I guess I just never realized becuase i was so focused on work.
“Long night?” She asked, looking at me while sipping a coke.
“You have no idea.” I sighed as I slammed my head on the table.
You really have no idea how much trouble i almost got myself into last night. I wanted to tell her, but was afraid I would ruin my own life if I spoke. I just sat there groaning and hating myself. Hating Ray. Hating Chase, even.
