The forest had gone still once again.
Even the wind seemed afraid.
Aria stared toward the distant mountains, her chest rising and falling rapidly as Kael’s words echoed inside her mind.
*The Dark Alpha has awakened.*
A cold chill crawled down her spine.
“Who is the Dark Alpha?” she asked softly.
Kael’s jaw tightened.
“The first Alpha ever created,” he answered. “A monster born before the moon blessed our kind.”
Lightning flashed across the clouds above the mountains.
For a brief second, Aria thought she saw a massive shadow standing at the peak.
Watching them.
Kael immediately grabbed her arm.
“We have to move before he finds you.”
“Find me?” Aria pulled away slightly. “Why would he want me?”
Kael hesitated.
Then he finally spoke.
“Because only the Blessed Luna can destroy him.”
The words struck her like ice.
Aria shook her head quickly. “No. You’re wrong. I can barely control whatever this power is.”
“You don’t understand,” Kael said. “For centuries, the Dark Alpha has searched for the Luna marked by the moon. If he captures you, he can steal your power and become unstoppable.”
Another terrifying howl shook the forest.
Closer this time.
The wolves surrounding Kael immediately growled nervously.
“He’s near,” one whispered.
Suddenly—
A thick black mist began spreading between the trees.
The temperature dropped instantly.
Aria’s breath became visible in the freezing air.
Then the wolves started backing away.
Fear filled their eyes.
Something was coming.
Heavy footsteps echoed slowly through the darkness.
One.
Two.
Three.
A tall figure emerged from the black mist wearing a long dark coat stained with silver blood. His silver hair moved with the cold wind, and his crimson eyes glowed unnaturally beneath the moonlight.
He was beautiful.
But terrifying.
Power radiated from him like death itself.
The wolves lowered their heads immediately.
Even Kael became tense.
The stranger smiled faintly when his eyes landed on Aria.
“So,” he said calmly, “the prophecy speaks truth after all.”
Aria’s body froze.
The man’s gaze felt inhuman—as though he could see every fear hidden inside her soul.
Kael stepped protectively in front of her.
“You should not have come here, Darius.”
So this was him.
The Dark Alpha.
Darius chuckled softly.
“And miss the awakening of the Blessed Luna?” His crimson eyes returned to Aria. “I waited centuries for this moment.”
Aria instinctively stepped backward.
Darius noticed.
A strange sadness crossed his face.
“You fear me,” he murmured.
“You slaughter entire packs,” Kael growled. “Fear is the only thing you deserve.”
Darius ignored him completely.
Instead, he slowly approached Aria.
“Do you know what they truly are?” he asked her quietly. “The packs. The Alphas. The moon priests.”
Aria said nothing.
“They will use you,” Darius continued. “They will force you onto a throne built from blood and war.”
Kael’s claws extended instantly.
“Enough.”
Darius finally looked at him.
“And you pretend to protect her?” he said coldly. “Your kind would chain her the moment she becomes powerful.”
Aria’s heart pounded.
She didn’t know who to believe.
Everything had happened too fast.
The prophecy.
The hunters.
The strange power growing inside her.
And now this terrifying immortal Alpha standing before her like a shadow from history itself.
Darius suddenly looked back at her and spoke softly.
“Come with me, Aria.”
Kael growled violently. “She’s not going anywhere with you.”
But Darius continued speaking only to her.
“I can teach you the truth about your power,” he said. “Because unlike them…”
His crimson eyes darkened.
“I knew the last Blessed Luna.”
Silence filled the forest.
Aria’s breath caught.
“The last Luna?” she whispered.
Darius nodded slowly.
“She was my mate.”
