I was surrounded by darkness, floating in an endless sea of anxiety, pain and regret. The hospital had long since faded away, and I wasn't sure how long I had just been floating in the darkness. I didn't care either. Everything hurt. My body, my heart, it hurt to breathe, and it hurt to think.
Truly, what was I going to do? I was rejected by my mate, not once but twice in the span of fifteen minutes. I was so weak that I couldn't comfort him, and instead I had hurt him. Me being with him had hurt him. He had called me unworthy. A useless mutt. He didn't want me. My colorful fairy-tale life had been ripped from me so now that I was just floating in the black mass of space inside my mind with nothing to look forward to.
"Moon Goddess?" I called, my voice quiet and raspy, "Can I just go to my parents? I don't want to live. I'll truly have nothing. No family, no love, no... no mate." I fell to my knees in my mind and finally began to let the tears come out of me. "I don't have a wolf, I don't have anything anymore. Please, let me just return to your side!" I sobbed. Completely heartbroken.
"My child," I heard the call of an ethereal voice. Lifting my head, I find a glowing woman standing before me. Her elegant form illuminated the darkness like a tiny flickering candle. Her hair was as silver as the moon, shining brightly, her eyes wrapped with cloth, but I could tell who it was by just looking. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my entire life.
"Goddess?" I choked out, not believing my eyes. Why would she answer me now, when I had begged her to let my wolf awaken to fight for my pack? When my parents died she was nowhere.
"My child, Wisteria, please know that I have a plan for you. I have always had a plan. Nothing is lost and not only does this pack need you, but the entire world." She spoke, her voice warm and soothing, as she approached me.
"Your wounds will heal. Your heart will hurt, but eventually you will find happiness my child. I promise, I have not forsaken you, and I will walk every day with you. You are not alone. However, now isn't the time for you to come home to me. The previous Alpha and Luna would be saddened if their child came far too soon."
She paused and looked at me, her fingers stroking my stringy limp curls. My green eyes watched her as my tears continued to spill.
"But, my goddess-given mate rejected me!" I sobbed, "I have no parents or family. My pack will hold the same sentiment as Elijah and I will no longer have a place there!"
She shook her head and crouched down to my level. "Dear child," she said, placing her forehead on my own. The skin she touched felt cool to the touch, and my mind felt much calmer than it had as she continued to speak.
"I need you to know you are not alone, and will never be alone. I need you on earth. You have a special power that the world will need in the coming years." The goddess paused, and I saw her weighing her words carefully. She looked troubled, and my natural instinct was to comfort her and do everything in my power to comfort and help her.
"Listen carefully, my child. You are blessed by the full moon that witnessed your birth. On the day that you were found by the former Alpha and Luna of River Song, they witnessed you being moon-kissed. Signifying your power and importance to all wolf-kind. While I am unable to go into detail about your destiny, just know that you are not and will never be alone. Things might be bleak right now, but what you need to focus on is not love, but your talents and skills. You should work hard at honing them. They will serve you well. You should always follow your gut feelings and never back down on the things you think are right."
"Everything hurts. I don't want to be alone. I don't want my brothers to hate me. I can't face them. I killed our parents!" I sobbed to her. I was pathetic, there was nothing I could do.
The Goddess shook her head. "Sadly, you and your brothers are all victims of circumstances, my dear. In time, you all have your roles to play. While Elijah has rejected you, that does not mean that his words about you being useless, a murderer and a mutt are true. Your parents don't blame you. In fact, they felt honored to lay down their lives for their young. You my little pup will understand in due time. However, I must urge you to own your skills and walk down the path that you need to walk down. It will be filled with pain, but you will be molded into a powerful being that can withstand everything in due time."
The Moon Goddess stood and reached out her hand to me. Once I grabbed hold of it, the dark abyss that had surrounded us inside my mind grew into a beautiful scene of a weeping willow over seeing a lake that had stars shimmering in its depths. A beautiful white wolf pulled itself from the table of roots and padded across the water to meet me. She was large and glowing, her white fur long and sleek, like it was of the moon. Her eyes were a vibrant emerald that matched my own. She lifted her head, and gave a powerful howl that sounded magical and melodic to my sensitive ears. The mere sound sent me reeling through the abyss of my mind, forcing me to wake up.
When my eyes finally cracked open, I found out that it had been 3 days since Elijah had rejected me. Tears began to fill my eyes once more. Everything hurt, it was hard to breathe and the thought of my mate rejecting me. The thought of the place that I was supposed to fully belong to disappearing... it all filled me with dread.
After taking a moment or two to assess my body and try to gather my thoughts, I heard a soft familiar voice beside me.
"Guess who decided to wake up."
