Aftermath

The tale of Isis was my mother's favorite story to tell my brothers and I while we grew up.She often said that she couldn't help but tell us the story a lot due to how much I reminded her of Isis. Although the story was about long and grueling wars, it was filled with romance. Isis was an orphaned wolf who was found crying in the woods, much like I was. Though, I'm not entirely sure if that was how the story started or if it was an embellishment my mother made to help me not feel so self-conscious about my own past. Although the Alpha of the River Song pack took pity on Isis, and allowed her to join the pack, she grew up rather poor, constantly having to fight for her right to eat. Working hard, the girl spent her life as an omega, in the kitchens, or cleaning the great halls of the palace. She didn't have a moment's rest and she was determined to learn how to be of more help to the pack who had graciously given her a home. The young girl would spend her morning and evenings cooking, have a quick dinner, before heading down to the training grounds late at night when no one was there. She spent her youth like that, working every single moment of her life, to better herself. One night, one of the pack's greatest warriors found her on the training ground one night, and offered to be her mentor despite her only being an omega. Ever since then, she has worked hard to prove her worth. On her eighteenth birthday, she wasn't able to find her wolf. Although the pack laughed and abused her for being wolfless, she never once gave up training to be a warrior. She was determined to fight for her pack, to grow stronger. Isis's mate happened to be the next Alpha of the pack. He initially rejected her due to her being wolfless. However, after a horrible rouge attack on her twentifirst birthday, Isis was able to manifest her wolf and transform into a brilliant silver wolf. Mother always described her as if she looked like she had descended from the moon, Glowing and powerful. Isis's wolf was one of the most powerful wolves that wasn't a lycan in recorded pack history. After the battle, the Alpha realized his mistake, and crowned Isis as his Luna, earning a happily ever after. But, happily ever afters only happen in stories. Two days after the battle, I finally woke up. The pack doctor informed me of what had happened after I had passed out. My mother, was so preoccupied with protecting me from danger, that she had been killed by Malcom who approached her from behind. My father and Malcom fought, but due to his Luna dying he was significantly weakened, and slain. My brother Lucas and my mate Elijah worked together to end the battle by slaying Malcom. However, thanks to the death of both the Luna and Alpha not all was well with the pack. A nurse went to quickly inform Elijah that I had awoken, before he came to me. While I waited for him arrive, I talked to the doctor about my condition, and explained that I wasn't able to manifest my wolf before and after I had been attacked. He explained that it since i had been wounded rather badly it was normal to not be able to transform. However, he was worried with how slowly I was healing. "You're healing faster than a human, but not as fast as a healthy wolf. I'm worried. You took quite the hit. Luckily, there was no damage to your spine or any nerve damage with how deep those gashes were. You lost a lot of blood, and I'll be honest Miss. Your blood type isn't exactly easy to find among our kind. You're a rarity through and through. You've made it through the worst of it. You just need to get plenty of rest. I think in about a week you'll be able to walk and in two weeks you'll be able to return to your daily life fully." I blinked at the doctor. Two weeks was a lot of time for a wolf. He patted me on the head and gave me a knowing grin. "you'll be alright. Just focus on rest and sleep ok?" He commanded before stepping out of the room. Suddenly, I found myself alone with my thoughts. Mother and father both had been killed while they were protecting me. If I had only been able to be stronger, if I had been like my mother's favorite story... I would have been able to at least defend myself so that they would be living. Blaming myself for their deaths wasn't something they would want, but I couldn't help but see it that way. "Wis..." I heard Elijah speak. He looked over me, out of breath, his normally blue eyes flashing black for a moment as his wolf fought for control over him. Slowly the blue came back as he entered the room. "Elijah..." I whispered to him, my eyes tearing up. "Mom... dad..." I swallowed hard, I heard the slap before I felt the sting burn through my cold cheek. The beeps of the machines around me in the hospital went silent. All I could hear was my heart beat thudding in my ears. I looked up at him, tears sliding silently down my cheeks. Why? What? "Wisteria, of the River Song Pack, I reject you as my mate. You are not fit to be Luna, or apart of the Gatlin family. Not only were you unable to turn, you got the Alpha and Luna killed. You're nothing but a weak ugly wolfless mutt." He growled. His words sounded foreign to me. I blinked, my cheeks growing red with shame. I wasn't able to look at him. My brother... was blaming me as well. He must hate me after all. For being weak. He was right. This was a sin that I'd never be able to wash my hands of. However, I had figured that Elijah and I would be able to work through this together as mates. We'd be able to find a cure of the hurt with in each other. I felt something slowly crumble inside me as realization dawned on me. "O-ok." I said, taking a deep breath. "Can we talk this out?" I asked, "You need a Lu-" "I don't need a Luna that can't protect herself. I don't need you. A... You're a Murderer. You basically murdered them." He screamed at me. The pain in his voice was overwhelming. He was hurting. He had lost his parents, and now he had to pick up the pieces of the pack all on his own. "We can't talk this out." He growled. I flinched, lowering my head to stare at my shaking hands that were placed in my lap. It hurt. My heart. It squeezed and pulsed heavily, feeling raw and exposed. "Is this really what you want?" I asked softly, trying to hold back the flood of tears I knew was coming. I was trying to keep it together. Everything had fallen into place, and now with just an hour of waking up, everything was crumbling to dust that I had built up over the years. "You're the reason my parents are dead. If it wasn't for you... If you had never been found by them, none of this would have ever happened." He stated coldly, fists clenched by his side. I took in a deep breath, Although I had thought those words, hearing them come from my mate's mouth was another thing entirely. Warm tears stung as the pooled in my eyes, threatening to fall.
