28 One more for the Vault of the Dead. That was the sick thought in my head as I let go of the twister. My knees buckled, and I hit the marble floor. I wanted to curl up and never move again. I probably would have, but Devon screamed high above, and I knew I had to keep going. Devon, Elizabeth, Eric—they were why I had to fight. They needed me, and I couldn’t abandon them to wallow in fear. “Sinato,” I said as I stumbled to the stairs. The sting of the spell healing my skin hurt almost as badly as the cutting itself. Devon screamed again. “Devon, hold on!” I shouted, running faster than I had in my entire life. I caught a glimpse of him rolling away from a shattered piece of banister. “Hold on, Devon,” I whispered as I reached the fourth floor. “Just hold on.” A shriek of laughter
