9 When the sun had started to rise, Mom woke me up. Not by shouting this time, but by pounding on the wall. “I’m up!” I hollered. The words seemed so normal even though I was screaming them through my magical wall. I didn’t bring my door back until I had dressed and packed my school bag. I even put on my coat in case I had to trap Dad and ten henchmen in a spell and make a run for it. “Pontunda,” I said when I ran out of reasons to linger. My door rumbled back into existence, and, taking a deep breath, I stepped out into the living room. “Good God.” Dad sat perched on the edge of the couch, eyes wide with terror as he watched me walk through the newly-formed door. “Morning, Dad.” I wasn’t really sure which was weirder.
