14 I really thought I would get a bunch of weird stares or at least some blatant avoidance on the subway for looking like a harbinger of death. But no one seemed to notice my undertaker-chic ensemble as we took the train to the lower east side. “Where exactly are we going?” I whispered as another hundred tourists got off of the train, heading for Christmas merriment aboveground. “You’ll see when we get there.” Eric smiled as he spoke. I didn’t trust that smile. “What do you mean, I’ll see? Are we going to the Empire State Building? Please don’t tell me magical forces have taken over the Empire State Building.” “Don’t be foolish.” Eric chuckled. “The Empire State Building hasn’t been in magical hands for the last decade.” “Right.
