I felt numb as Eric led us back into the tunnels and to the now-familiar crunch of bones under my feet. I didn’t ask questions I wouldn’t want the answers to. I just walked through the dark, not marking the endless twists or turns. Just walked.
Elizabeth was next to me, not looking at me.
“Hey,” I whispered. Devon and Eric both looked at me, but Elizabeth kept her head firmly forward. “Look, I’m sorry I was an asshat who snapped at you.”
Eric rolled his eyes, but Devon grinned and gave a tiny thumbs up Elizabeth probably saw.
“I know you were trying to be on my side and I―”
“Bit my head off,” Elizabeth said.
“I mean, that really covers a lot of it,” I muttered.
