11 I didn’t even notice the cold as I sat on the steps outside Elizabeth’s building. I’d sunk to the level of numb where things like freezing to death don’t seem to matter anymore. Devon paced in front of me on the sidewalk, but he seemed to know better than to try and offer words of encouragement. Elizabeth had been sent to Soaring Horizons, a place I’d only ever seen mentioned on the brochures in our guidance counselor’s office. I could picture the cover of the brochure.
