13 I started off by walking along the track. I hadn’t seen teens anywhere else, and searching the open area seemed like a better idea than going into one of the cement buildings and hoping I might stumble upon Elizabeth at exactly the right moment. I kept my pace to a steady half-march, half-strut. I held my chin high and glared at every student I passed like I was Hell’s hall monitor. I studied each of the groups running by, searching for Elizabeth’s blonde hair with tiny black streaks. I knew she wasn’t outside before I’d made it halfway around the track.
