7 I didn’t even scream as the stairs crumbled, sending shards of glass flying through the air. Acting on pure instinct, I grabbed Devon and pulled him close to me. “Primurgo.” My shield blossomed around us, blocking the glass from reaching our skin. “Tell me you didn’t do that.” Devon spoke under the frightened cries of the other customers. “It wasn’t me.” I let go of my shield, hoping no one had noticed it in the chaos of the stairs collapsing. “We need the police!” a woman ten feet away from me shouted into her cellphone. “I think we’re being attacked.” I didn’t really see how it happened, but the phone woman was suddenly flying across the room as though she’d been tossed by a spell I most definitely hadn’t created.
